We are currently seeking to hire a Production Manager at our brand new meat processing facility in Hamilton, ON!

Who We Are:
Sierra Supply Chain Services provides protein (poultry, beef, pork) solutions to the food processing and distribution sector. We simplify supply chain services and provide expanding value to the protein sector across our three locations in Brampton, Hamilton, and Mississauga.

We are excited to announce the expansion of a newest Processing facility in Hamilton that is: 25,000 square foot that allows for 200,000 kg of weekly multi protein grinding and daily custom boxing and blast freezing!

Purpose

The Production Supervisor is responsible for leading the manufacturing processes to maximize the production lines capacity and ensuring the fill rate to customers is orders is achieved. Implements the daily and weekly production schedule to achieve productivity KPIs (kg/l-hr, throughput) and quality. Contributes to the Lean Manufacturing projects to achieve the improvement targets on time

Accountabilities and Detailed Activity:

Production Management

  • Directly involved with assigning personnel to production lines, monitoring progress and resolving problems on the production floor
  • Follow the right procedures, do proper handover
  • Ensuring work results are accomplished and priorities are established
  • Reporting results of the processing flow on shift production summaries
  • Revising the schedules and production plans as needs change
  • Plan and monitor production lines and employees to meet quality and efficiency standards
  • Complete production reports, participate in production meetings as assigned by the production manager
  • Assists in system and procedural improvements by analyzing operating practices, record-keeping systems, forms of control, and budgetary and personnel requirements
Production Maximization & Yield Management
  • Monitoring steps of the process and observing control points, ensuring production is being maximized
  • Track and monitor labour time of personnel and agency workers, reporting on these metrics
  • Review people schedule and minimize OT where possible
  • Food Mate Yield Improvement
  • Compile production information, analyze production performance records and data to ensure production is being maximized efficiently
  • Reduction in meat on the floor give away and losses
Food Safety Compliance & Quality Assurance
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices, Sanitation and Safety Standards
  • Ensure Hazard control is followed, ensure GMP practices are met
  • Check production quality regularly and communicate with QA team on quality issues
  • Establishing & enforcing organization standards
Line Throughput & Labor Utilization
  • Reduction in meat on the floor give away and losses
  • Use the right employee in the right position
  • Work with production manager to review and ensure workload is balanced to wellbeing
  • Efficiency Improvement, reduction of overtime
  • Continually identify the effectiveness of the production line at a given time
  • Identify the rate of production; how services are being produced in a timely matter
Timely & Quality Production Line Fulfillment
  • Monitor the production line(s) to ensure that production goals/tasks are being fulfilled in a timely manner (adhering to time constraints)
  • Ensure that product is of the highest quality prior to being packaged/prepared for shipping/delivery
Supervision & Coaching
  • Direct and coach team leads as required on a regular basis
  • Supervise & monitor the production line employees
  • Resolve personnel problems by analyzing data, investigating issues, identifying solutions, and recommending action
  • Keep goals clear and focused
  • Incentive employees
  • Encourage team building, get to know the team. Lead by example
  • Set and evaluate job expectations for production employees, provide on-going feedback

Minimum Requirement
  • High School Diploma , GED or Equivalent combination experience and education. Food Science or equivalent Degree Preferred
  • 7 years of experience in a food processing/production environment considered an asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in both oral and written communication
  • Basic Mathematical and Calculation Skills and Computer skills are required
  • Comfortable with the environment: smell of meat, cool temperatures
