Consisting of four locations—the main processing facility located in Brooks, Alberta, where approximately 4,200 head of cattle are harvested and processed daily; the Head Office and a case ready plant, both based in Calgary, Alberta; and JBS Ontario, a case ready plant located in Belleville, Ontario. The JBS Canada facility in Brooks has the capacity to produce products ranging from boxed beef primals, ground beef, beef trimmings, beef by-products and hides which are shipped across Canada and worldwide. We are currently seeking a Fresh Meat Production Manager to join our team at our JBS Ontario facility in Belleville, ON.The Production Manager is accountable for the management of the day to day activities in relation to the Fresh Meat production unit. Supporting production management and staff in the achievement of manufacturing objectives pertaining to product specifications, yield, quality, efficiency, GMP and safety of all employees. Establishes weekly/monthly production schedules, managing employee issues and ensuring compliance with all standards (production, food safety and employee relations/union relations).Participates in the strategic planning for the facility to establish manufacturing objectiveNOTE: This position will be located in Belleville, ONYou will

  • Ensures daily achievement of objectives in terms of product yield and quality, production efficiency targets, and customer service requirements (product appearance, product specifications and volume targets)
  • Plans staffing requirements to meet production needs and labour efficiencies on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. Communicates these requirements to Production Supervisors for daily scheduling adjustments.
  • Ensure compliance to Workplace Safety & Health legislation. Ensures workers understand safety requirements, and effectively manages the production floor to ensure a safe working environment for all employees. As necessary, conduct accident investigations to determine root causes and corrective action required.
  • Enforce HACCP procedures and displays an ongoing commitment to food safety, including set up requirements. Continually reinforce HACCP and food safety regulations.
  • Receives and acts upon recommendations from Production Supervisors and production staff on possible improvements concerning operating practices, continuous process improvement opportunities and ways to improve communications on production requirements. Involves plant management on significant decisions as needed.
  • Ensures equipment is operated safely and within product specifications.
  • In conjunction with Maintenance, oversees and ensures routine maintenance of equipment is completed. Works with the Maintenance team to schedule significant additional maintenance requirements and ensures equipment is operating within expected tolerances.
  • Provides ongoing direction to Production Supervisors to ensure operations are conducted in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices
  • Participates in building annual budgets and long-range strategic planning for production operations. Manages production operations to meet budget requirements.
  • Facilitate achievement of objectives in terms of product quality, efficiency targets, and customer service
  • Commit to continuously improve manufacturing operations, financial, and process results and efficiencies, while meeting customer expectations and minimizing waste.
  • Reinforces understanding and compliance with Company Policies, all relevant provincial legislation requirements, and the terms of the Collective Agreement
  • Administers discipline in line with Company's requirements and the Company's discipline policy and the Collective Agreement, including delivering disciplinary messages and conducting disciplinary interviews as needed
  • Presents a professional and respectful attitude when dealing with both internal and external contacts and will work towards facilitating a team atmosphere within the Service Centre.
  • Ensures that the General Manager is kept informed of all major changes, challenges and issues that occur within the production operation in a timely manner.
  • Additional duties as assigned
You Have:
  • Preferably educated in post-secondary learning within the realms of Production/Operations or General management, Food Sciences, or Industrial Engineering, or a proven track record of progressive operating and management experience in a food processing/manufacturing environment.
  • Operating and management experience within the food processing sector, preferably within meat processing and ideally including red meat processing experience.
  • Familiarization with food safety and productivity requirements of the meat/food processing industry.
  • Management experience, including providing leadership on performance management, coaching, employee discipline and improvement, and union/management relations.
  • As a leader within the facility, the Production Manager will present a professional and respectful attitude when dealing with both internal and external contacts and works towards facilitating a team atmosphere in all areas of the facility.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to lead a team safely, achieve production objectives and ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Experience of working in unionized environments within the context of Collective Agreements
  • Familiarization with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations, including WHMIS, Labour Relations, Human Rights, workplace safety, and WISB.
Work Site Environment:
  • Normal office environment for most of each day.
  • Working in a cold working environment on a daily basis, for parts of each day.
  • Exposure to job situations where there is a possibility of injury - on a daily basis for parts of each day
  • Work involves minor physical strain/walking/standing for parts of the day on a daily basis.
