Job Description

Chronicle Custom Woodworks is a custom woodworking shop located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The Company specializes in the manufacture of custom staircases and handrails, solid wood doors, and other bespoke wood products. We are seeking a Production Assistant to join our team--someone who approaches their work with professionalism, attention to detail, and a willingness to develop their skills in a traditional shop environment.

Role Purpose



The Production Team is responsible for the ongoing day-to-day production and execution of all products and services offered by the Company, as instructed, directed, or delegated by the Shop Supervisor, Production Manager, or upper management. Production Team members are expected to carry out assigned work with care, accuracy, and attention to detail, while maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment. As skills and experience develop, team members are expected to take on increased responsibility across production, finishing, quality control, and on-site support.

Core Production Responsibilities



Production Team members will:

Produce stair and railing components in solid wood, including handrails, newel posts, stair treads, and spindles; Assist in manufacturing stairs made of wood, composites, glass, and steel; Operate woodworking machinery such as jointers, table saws, planers, shapers, and sanders; Use hand tools and jigs with accuracy and care; Prepare components for wood finishing, including sanding and surface correction; Apply wood finishes according to established procedures and quality standards; Inspect finished components to ensure finish quality, consistency, and durability; Support on-site work, including installation, finishing, and touch-ups as required; Track time and material use accurately for cost control; Maintain safe, clean, and organized work areas; Assist other team members to keep production flowing smoothly.

Production Team members are expected to:

Take pride in both structural quality and finish quality; Follow specifications, templates, and drawings with care; Prevent avoidable rework through proper preparation and inspection; Ask questions before performing unfamiliar or high-risk tasks; Apply feedback to continually improve results.

Skill Growth & Development



As skills develop, Production Assistants are expected to take on increased responsibility across machining, assembly, finishing, and quality control. Growth is recognized through expanded duties, cross-training, and eligibility for wage increases and performance-based incentives.

Safety & Conduct



Employees must:

Follow all safety rules and use PPE at all times; Maintain clean and controlled finishing and production areas; Represent the Company professionally when working on site or around clients.

Reporting Structure



Reports directly to the Shop Supervisor; May take direction from the Lead Hand when the Supervisor is unavailable; Does not have authority to make purchases or financial commitments.

Success in This Role Looks Like



Work is completed correctly the first time; Finished components meet visual and durability standards; The shop runs smoothly because you support both production and finishing workflows; Your craftsmanship and confidence improve steadily over time.

Compensation



Compensation for this position is commensurate with experience, skill level, and demonstrated capability. Entry-level candidates can expect a starting wage appropriate to their experience, with opportunities for wage advancement as skills, responsibility, and productivity increase. In addition to hourly wages, the Company offers participation in a profit-sharing program as part of the overall compensation package, along with steady full-time employment, predictable working hours, and access to a benefits program.
