The ideal candidate will have practical knowledge and experience in drug eluting medical device development. The successful candidate will be responsible for the planning and execution of the development of the company's novel lidocaine and insecticide elastrator technology. Currently, this project is fully funded for a two-year R&D program to develop insecticide eluting prototypes and execute proof of concept field experiments involving livestock.
The candidate will have an advanced degree in chemistry, with a strong background knowledge in microbiology, chemistry, veterinary, engineering or related field (Ph.D. or M.Sc. is an asset).
The ideal candidate should have practical working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP). The successful applicant will be expected to work independently and collaboratively on the design and in the execution of the program, coordinating with the entire team. They will be responsible for the day-to-day program management and ensure its successful completion.
The applicant will have familiarity with the following: HPLC, GC-MS, dissolution/immersion cell operation, basic microbiology (BSL2 containment), SOP development, experimental design, report writing, budgeting, scientific communications.
Strong project management skills required. Working with, and handling, of livestock in field studies will be a requirement of this position
Relationships:
Reports directly to the Operations Manager.
Works closely with the research team in the completion of the specific research program.
TASKS:
Design, plan and execute:
- Analytical chemistry and biological activity experiments related to drug eluting medical devices.
- Pilot manufacturing studies related to drug eluting medical devices
On-farm field trial testing of prototype devices.
Implementation of GMP and GLP.
Take ownership of assigned tasks and work closely with external and internal team members to ensure that appropriate resources are allocated to projects, and that the tasks are completed both on time and on budget
Prepare reagents, samples, and solutions.
Operate laboratory instruments on a routine basis.
Maintain accurate records of work carried out.
Timely and accurate entry of data and results.
Writing original research papers and technical reports based on findings for submission to specialist subject publications.
Draw up research proposals to apply for grants and awards when required.

This is a full-time contract ( 1-2yrs) with the possibility to extend or transition to a permanent position. 40 hours per week Mon-Fri, 8am-4:30pm, with occasional scheduled work outside normal business hours.
