The Product Development (Automotive, Tools, Yard and Home) team\xe2\x80\x99s mandate is to help build the equity of CTR\xe2\x80\x99s Retail Brands by improving the design and experience associated with our private- label branded offerings. The Industrial Designer\xe2\x80\x99s role is to support the Product Development Manager in building products that help deliver a consistent, authentic, and customer-driven product experience through our retail brands.
Design, and develop products from concept to execution. Products that align with brand and delivers on the innovation needs for life in Canada
Lead and execute on the design and development deliverables - brainstorm, design kick-off, concepts, prototypes, 3D design, design reviews, sample reviews and vendor workshops
Consider customer-centric approaches, participate in product design research exercises - customer visits, interviews, analysis, synthesis, storyboarding and prototyping
Become subject matter expert by providing guidance on new technology, product design.
Contributes to product recommendations and directions by conducting competitive evaluation, and presents findings to cross-functional team(s)
Creates product design briefs & technical specification packages that captures the customer centric CTQ (Critical to Quality) and CTE (Critical to Experience) deliverables
Collaborate with global sourcing and incorporate manufacturing considerations
Travel (Domestic and International) when appropriate to participate in onsite design reviews, manufacturing builds, trade shows
What you bring
Undergraduate degree in Industrial Design.
Minimum 3 years of experiences of the following industries preferred \xe2\x80\x93 consumer hard goods including tools, toys, or home appliances, or automotive.
Experience in human centered design approach and familiarity in Design Research Methodologies.
Outstanding communicator able to clearly translate strategy into design specs or direction
Ability to succeed with minimal supervision where priorities may shift due to changing business needs
Experience with usability testing, ethnographic research, and product development tools
Familiarity of manufacturing processes for hard lines goods
Organized and detail oriented, able to tackle multiple projects with varying scope and project teams
Experience or interest in APP or wireframe design is an asset
