SCOPE
Reporting to the Manager, Studio, the incumbent provides visual media services including creating, capturing and producing photographs, audio recordings and videos using professional digital equipment to produce media content that conveys institutional and departmental messages for multiple channels.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
o Capture photos for institutional and departmental needs. Plan, prepare, and execute shoots in collaboration with colleagues and clients.
o Produce, shoot and edit videos of people, spaces, events, interviews and cutaways/b-roll footage needed for the various channels as required, to engage a wide range of audiences including current students, prospective students, parents, researchers and the public, as well as internal faculty and staff. Create simple animations, as required.
o Discuss projects with clients, promote creative ideas and recommend production methods. Liaise with various faculties, departments and units within the university community to organize and arrange appointments for production assignments.
o Identify and contribute to the development of university stock photo and video libraries for institutional use. Create a content calendar with planned shoots.
o Ensure photographs/videos are ready for publication and distribution. Make sure that the photos are accessible in PhotoFinder and that the corresponding image waiver forms are properly associated with the photos.
o Prepare media files for archiving, tagging/keywording, and distribution. Ensure assets are properly catalogued for future retrieval.
o Keep current with trends in photography, videography, and production techniques. Propose innovative approaches to enhance university communications. Monitor other platforms that host content about Concordia or other universities to get a sense of current trends, issues, and challenges facing students and other members of the higher ed community. Report this information to appropriate UCS stakeholders.
o Attend related events on/off campus to shoot video or photos, and/or broadcast these events live on social media platforms.
o Source/create appropriate content produced by third-parties, in-line with Concordia's brand and content guidelines.
o Consult with colleagues to determine equipment needs and recommend improvements to workflows, equipment, and procedures.
o Perform other tasks in support of the unit, as assigned by the Studio Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
o Bachelor's degree and two to four years of experience in producing and editing photography, video and multimedia and motion graphics, including sound recording and audio post-production.
o Demonstrated knowledge of a variety of social media platforms such as YouTube, Meta, LinkedIn, Spotify and TikTok, and the specs and requirements related to these platforms.
o Very good knowledge (Level 5) of spoken and written English and good knowledge (Level 4) of spoken and written French in order to review and modify content.
o Advanced knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and Adobe.
o Familiarity with the MS Office suite.
o Advanced knowledge of video/audio edition and professional recording equipment and applications such as Apple's Logic Pro or Adobe Audition, Apple's Final Cut Pro, Apple's Compressor, Apple's Motion, and Adobe after Effects.
o Advanced knowledge of compositing, motion graphics design, video/audio compression and applications (Compressor or Media Encoder).
o Knowledge of subtitling tools and best practices.
o Strong coordination, planning, problem-solving, client-focused, verbal/written communication, and multitasking skills.
o Excellent organizational skills, especially time management and prioritization.
o Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with alumni, donors, media, faculty and staff members, as well as students.
o Diplomatic, tactful, creative and dynamic; able to analyze a problem and take initiative.
o Demonstrated sense of creativity, design and innovation; ability to stay abreast of digital trends.
o Availability to work outside normal operating hours.
