Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Procurement Specialist is responsible for ensuring that electrical projects are equipped with the necessary materials, tools and supplies, keeping our operations efficient and cost-effective. This role works closely with internal contacts including our Project Management team, Operations team and Engineering team as well as external suppliers and vendors to source and order products, negotiate pricing, receive and track inventory and ensure the timely delivery of goods.
Position Responsibilities
Leads the procurement and sourcing of electrical materials, components and equipment as required.* Source and procure a wide range of electrical materials, components and equipment needed for projects
Solicit and evaluate supplier quotes, negotiate pricing and terms, and finalize purchase agreements ensuring competitive pricing and favorable terms
Identify and qualify new vendors, while maintaining strong relationships with existing electrical suppliers
Manages all electrical supplier relationships and oversees contracts ensuring quality and timely delivery.* Develop and manage supplier relationships to ensure service quality, timely deliveries and compliance with contract terms
Resolve supplier performance issues, delivery delays and quality discrepancies effectively
Monitor vendor performance metrics and participate in vendor evaluations
Maintains inventory levels through effective monitoring and coordination with internal staff; receives and validates materials to ensure overall quality and compliance; ships materials as required.* Collaborate with electricians, engineers and project management teams to forecast and plan material needs by reviewing technical project specifications or Bills of Materials
Monitor and maintain inventory levels and lead times to ensure availability and minimize stockouts or overstock situations
Coordinate deliveries in line with project timelines and site requirements
Ensure all purchased materials meet specifications, quality standards and relevant codes or certification in coordination with key stakeholders
Ship materials to customers completing waybills and documentation (customs) as required
Maintains accurate documentation and prepares timely reports on procurement activity.* Create and maintain accurate purchase orders, contracts, deliveries and cost data in the ERP or procurement system
Monitor and analyze market trends and identify cost-saving opportunities
Prepare reports on procurement status, cost analysis and supplier performance
Support audits and internal reviews with complete and organized documentation
Adhere to internal procurement practices and contribute to continuous process improvement
Position Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or a related field is considered an asset
Minimum of 5 years' experience in procuring electrical components and equipment within the construction, industrial, or marine industries
Strong technical knowledge of electrical components, wiring, controls and related technical specifications
Experience creating purchase orders for vendor/suppliers and implementing/tracking within ERP systems
Proficiency with procurement software, ERP systems, SharePoint and Microsoft Office Suite
Excellent negotiation, communication and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
Ability to proactively manage problems; identifying issues and implementing solutions
Valid driver's license in Canada
Demonstrated proficient use of MS Office (particularly Excel) and project ERP and job costing software
Position Location
This position is based at Canal Marine & Industrials facility, in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. It is possible that periods of travel ( ~ 10% ) may be required to fulfill the duties of this role.
