Process Team Lead - ( 230002BV ) Description Your opportunity The Team Lead plays a critical role in the Calgary Process Team development, performance, planning, engagement, and utilization. The Team Lead will work closely with the Engineering Discipline Lead (EDL), Business Center Operating and Practice Leads (BCOL, BCPL), 1101 Team Leads, and the Calgary Process Team. The primary role of the Team Lead is to support the overall health (e.g. team engagement, retention, project delivery, growth) of the Calgary Process Team and make sure that the team is well-positioned for long-term success. Your Key Responsibilities People Management:

  • Champion ideas and initiatives that promote a healthy work environment and a positive culture.
  • Show leadership in continuous improvement of team performance by providing coaching, mentoring and training as needed.
  • Establish strong relationships with team members and provide regular recognition and feedback.
  • Proactively identify and resolve team issues and conflicts.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and proactiveness in handling and dealing with confidential and sensitive personnel issues.
  • As a key stakeholder in staff development, the supervisor would participate in staff goal setting including the review of performance within the annual review cycle and perform regular one on one check-in meetings with their staff on a quarterly basis. They should also champion mentoring and succession planning around a defined career path.
  • Participate in staff selection, training, evaluations, and performance management.
  • The supervisor will track and monitor utilization and forecast data as it relates to their team on a weekly basis to assess staff workload and engage in resource planning.
  • The supervisor should facilitate regular discipline meetings to track project deliverables, coordinate with their team on upcoming project needs and field any questions around resourcing or technical matters. It is expected that the supervisor will interact regularly with staff and work closely with the EDL to provide information (standards, IP, technical references, sample projects, etc.) needed to complete assignments.
  • Assess staff skill and knowledge level; identifies growth opportunities to engage others in project work; delegate tasks to staff based on skills and knowledge level. Encourage growth and career development while maintaining the required quality on all deliverables.

  • Lead and execute team planning activities: team charter, training needs and resourcing.
  • Develop the Team Engagement Plan and update Team Charter for communication, knowledge sharing, workload management and conflict resolution.
Project Execution:
  • The selected candidate should have eight (8) years of water/wastewater engineering or project management experience and will be involved in project execution.
  • Work under minimal supervision and with the Business Centre Leadership Team to manage multiple water related projects, including the management of existing client relationships and bringing in new clients.
  • Collaborate with discipline specific PMs and EDLs to promote work sharing and the import and export of personnel as required to successfully deliver projects throughout the business.
  • It is expected that the Team Lead will work closely with our discipline specific EDL to drive consistency in project delivery, resource planning, staff development and the adoption of Stantec IP, best practices and knowledge sharing.
  • Assign, review and evaluate work for technical accuracy and completeness; and advise on technical problems.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Qualifications Your Capabilities and Credentials:
  • Professional Engineer Designation with APEGA, or eligibility for registration with APEGA.
  • Strong leadership, problem solving and decision-making skills in managing people.
  • Results-oriented leadership style focused in delivering on goals and objectives.
  • Experience leading water and wastewater process design teams in finalizing preliminary and detailed engineering design packages.
  • Strong communication skills including mentoring and coaching junior staff, participation in professional societies and/or authoring professional papers and presentations.
  • Strong design leadership and client relation building skills with proven capability to lead design teams and mentor staff.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institute
  • Related graduate degree would be an asset
  • A professional engineering (P.Eng.) designation is required and minimum of eight (8) years of experience.
  • Successful experience in leading teams within projects and proven leadership skills.
  • Experience in the consulting engineering environment and project management experience is an asset.
