Overview of Role
The Process Scale-up Engineer will focus on Sixone's external scale-up work and ensure successful technology transfer to our manufacturing partners. This team is the bridge between internal development and large-scale production.
This role requires travel within Canada and the United States. Candidates must be legally eligible to travel cross-border and hold (or be able to obtain) a valid passport.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have the following duties and responsibilities:
Technology Transfer and Knowledge Translation: Transfer knowledge from internal R&D and process engineering teams to contract manufacturers.
On-site Oversight and Auditing: Work on-site with manufacturing partners to ensure processes are followed correctly and troubleshoot issues.
Diagnosis and Problem Solving: Quickly identify and solve deviations or problems in the manufacturing process, including hands-on troubleshooting during both scale-down and full-scale testing at vendor sites.
Project Management: Manage projects related to technology transfer and new product introduction, especially regarding timelines and communication.
Data Gathering and Communication: Collect data from external sites to inform internal teams and provide a clear communication pipeline between all stakeholders.
Candidate Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Demonstrates the ability to effectively translate lab-scale processes into clear, scalable procedures for external manufacturing partners.
Ensures critical process knowledge (e.g., tolerances, reliability requirements, quality standards) is captured and transferred without loss of accuracy.
Builds strong working relationships with contract manufacturers, suppliers, and cross-functional internal teams.
Balances technical oversight with diplomacy, ensuring expectations are clear and issues are resolved collaboratively.
Applies a rigorous approach to auditing, process validation, and adherence to quality standards.
Identifies risks early and enforces corrective/preventive measures to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable scale-up.
Plans, tracks, and drives technology transfer and scale-up projects to completion, managing timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder communication.
Proactively addresses risks and adjusts plans to keep projects on track.
Responds quickly and effectively to unexpected challenges during external manufacturing runs.
A bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering , or similar).
3 to 5 years of engineering experience, preferably in scaling chemical processes and project coordination for external partners or in a highly collaborative cross-departmental environment.
Legally entitled to work in Canada.
