Position Summary

The Process Improvement Engineer (PIE) is responsible for maintaining and improving production processes by reducing variation, enhancing equipment range and output capabilities as well as supporting continuous improvement efforts employing lean principles and techniques. The Process Improvement Engineer is a hands-on role balancing the demands of direct day-to-day production engineering support with longer term strategic continuous improvement objectives. A PIE candidate is self-driven with the ability to independently manage projects requiring problem solving and dynamic decision management to deliver world class process design and improvements to support business activities at the CSG Toronto Site.

Responsibilities

  • Understand plant operating systems, equipment lines, and associated tooling in order to support and improve production efficiency, throughput and quality maintenance
  • Work directly with production personnel to provide day-to-day support and proactive problem resolution where required and possible
  • Develop and maintain standardized manufacturing specifications, control plans and operating procedures to ensure consistent and effective manufacturing capabilities in line with quality management standards and systems
  • Utilize formalized root cause problems solving techniques to resolve operational problems
  • Build and manage projects focusing on elimination of waste in the value stream
  • Modify production equipment to increase its output and product range
  • Analyze process data to identify and develop process improvement opportunities
  • Support the deployment of the Shawcor Manufacturing System (SMS)
  • Design and implement new production processes and tooling
  • Validate and commercialize processing of new products from prototype designs
  • Support HSE and quality system compliance
  • Provide training to employees on process engineering techniques and other methodologies to support continuous improvement
  • Contribute to the preparation of reports to document process capabilities for customers (ie. PPAP)
  • Develop systems to monitor and control process conditions utilizing Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques
Skills and Qualifications
  • At least 3 years' experiencing executing process improvements in a Manufacturing environment
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and safety awareness
  • Applied CAD design techniques
  • Understanding of polymer and processing technologies
  • History of application of advanced problem-solving skills
  • Well organized and strong interpersonal skills
  • Lean/Six Sigma experience is an asset with a strong understanding of lean tools/techniques and their effective use
  • Understanding of process control and data systems is an asset
  • Knowledge of TS16949 Quality Systems is an asset
  • Project management skills are an asset
