BIOVECTRA Inc. is a leading bio-science business in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, focused on contract manufacturing and product development of active pharmaceutical ingredients, pharmaceutical intermediates, and bioreagents. BIOVECTRA Inc. has an immediate opening for a Process Engineer. This is a full-time permanent position located in Nova Scotia with Hybrid option. The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring robust systems are used throughout the technology transfer exercise to ensure all risks are identified and mitigated.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify, scale, and qualify Critical Process Parameters, Critical Quality Attributes, Critical Aspects and Control strategies so that robust commercial processes are achieved.
  • Performing process engineering analysis to determine cycle time, equipment fit, technologies required, scale up risk, etc.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to ensure technical feasibility while evaluating new processes and products.
  • Development of process flow diagrams, mass balances, and energy balances.
  • Tracking and monitoring process metrics and identifying continuous improvement areas, and process change or improvement requirements.
  • Risk based approach to process, and equipment improvements/modifications
  • Designing, procuring, installing, commissioning and qualifying of new pharmaceutical processes and equipment.
  • Troubleshooting process equipment, to improve operation and efficiency.
  • Prioritizing and executing assigned project deliverables, including adherence to budgets and schedules, coordinating project startup, commissioning and qualification activities with internal and external groups.
  • Hands-on startup of new process equipment and instrumentation, including troubleshooting equipment and instrumentation during commissioning activities.
  • Developing and updating AutoCAD drawings, including review/edit of "As Built" drawings in coordination with outside contractors.
  • Participating in project meetings between engineering, manufacturing, and client.
  • Participating in P&ID, HAZOP and other design reviews.
  • Preparing conceptual design packages, and return on investment reports.
The successful candidate for this position should have:
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Six Sigma or Lean Certification would be an asset.
  • Five years work experience in a pharmaceutical manufacturing or similar regulated environment.
    • Experience scaling up biological processes from lab to commercial scale.
    • Design experience with upstream and/or downstream process equipment.
    • Experience with pDNA and mRNA an asset.
    • Experience with fill/finish an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with the start-up and commissioning of facilities, process equipment and instrumentation.
  • Possesses financial acumen, understands business metrics, and how to impact results. Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally.
  • Basic understanding of fire and building codes and applicable quality and regulatory standards.
  • Strong written ,oral, and computer skills including EXCEL, Word, MS Project and AutoCAD.
  • Energetic team player able to work effectively independently.
  • Project management experience would be an asset.
  • Ability to function effectively under ongoing pressure and flexibility to change.
  • Enthusiastic and willing to expand on responsibilities and professional abilities.
