Role Overview

Reporting to the Superintendent, Feed Assessment, the Process Engineer is responsible for execution of process development and optimization projects for Teck Trail Operations' Pb-Zn Metallurgical facility.
To be successful, we are looking for a team-oriented individual with a strong knowledge base in extractive metallurgy and an enthusiasm for tackling difficult process problems.
Key Responsibilities
------------------------
Be a courageous safety leader; adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
Review technical literature to stay current with new technology and identify potential process improvements
Lead benchtop, pilot plant and commercial plant test work and trials through the preparation of test plans and provide supervision to personnel executing the work
Develop and improve process design from analysis and interpretation of test work program results or plant data
Prepare written technical reports summarizing the details of the analysis and drawing key recommendations
Complete metallurgical simulations using existing modeling tools in support of projects
Develop flow sheets, process design criteria, mass, energy and water balances for projects as required
Work with project teams to develop layouts, assist with equipment and piping selection, and develop process control philosophies for pilot plants
Participate or lead process hazard assessments as required for project work
Support team's safety, environmental and infrastructure activities including participating in audits, managing routine maintenance requirements, and updating documents
Collaborate and facilitate exchange of information and expertise with other Trail Operations groups
Provide direct supervision to technicians, EITs, and/or Coop students assisting with projects and authenticate work products produced
Qualifications
------------------
University degree in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering
Minimum of 5 years' working experience in metallurgical or chemical industry
Applicants need to be eligible for registration or registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. ("EGBC") as this will be a condition of employment. Teck will support eligible employees with their EGBC registration
Practical and theoretical knowledge of pyrometallurgy, hydrometallurgy or electrometallurgy processes and related technologies
Experience with bench-scale and pilot plant test work strongly preferred
Experience with developing PFDs and P&IDs an asset
Experience with HSC and metallurgical simulation software considered an asset
Supervisory experience an asset
Good project management skills; experience with MS Project considered an asset
Good critical thinking, data analysis and problem-solving skills
Effective communication skills including verbal, written and presentation skills
Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-based environment
Demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills
Pay Range:
CAD $105,000 - $147,000 per year
The actual amount offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
