Process Engineer - Pressure Safety, Control Valves - Temporary (12-month Term)


Summary



Join our team to ensure safe and reliable system performance through PSV, BDV, and CV sizing and pressure protection design. You will calculate relief scenarios, assess flare header and tail pipe sizing, and support regulatory-compliant safety system design.



You will define instrument values, mark P&IDs with sizing results, prepare BOMs in EDM, and identify long-lead items early in the project lifecycle. You will also support SDK and control narrative development.


This is a temporary role on a 12-month Term and is based out of our 47 St Southeast office.

Responsibilities and Duties


Perform PSV, BDV, control valve, regulator (blanket gas), PVRV, and EPRV sizing in accordance with process safety and regulatory standards Support flare header and tail pipe sizing to ensure safe relief and disposal capacity Define process set points, instrumentation values, and manifold configurations Review and implement specifications affecting relief and control system design Mark P&IDs with confirmed sizing results and ensure database alignment Prepare and manage process BOMs, providing purchasing teams with complete procurement data Request vendor quotes, evaluate selections, and identify long-lead items proactively Develop Shutdown Keys (SDK), control narratives, and contribute to alarms and safety philosophies

Qualifications


Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Process, or Mechanical Engineering Eligible for, or currently registered as, a P.Eng. with APEGA (or equivalent) 3-10 years of experience in pressure relief systems design per API/industry safety standards Skilled in PSV, BDV, CV, regulator, and tank vent sizing software/tools Proficient in process simulation tools (Symmetry, Aspen HYSYS, Promax) Experience in flare hydraulic analysis and disposal system sizing Knowledge of alarm philosophies and shutdown key development Competency in BOM generation and engineering data management systems (EDM) Solid technical understanding of instrumentation and safeguarding design Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Exposure to HAZOP/LOPA process safety reviews is considered an asset
