Private Sewage Technology Advisor

Key Responsibilities Include:

Role
In this role the Technical Advisor exercises initiative, judgment and discretion when working with division andbranch staff, other government departments, a broad rage of industry partners, national standards developmentorganizations and representative of other provincial/territorial governments.

Duty Officer
Provide consistent interpretation in response to requests for technical information related to the AlbertaPrivate Sewage Systems Standard of Practice and regulations enforced in Alberta;
Participate in the resolution of issues and complaints, make recommendations regardingcompliance/enforcement;
Respond to assigned FOIP requests;
Respond to assigned Action Requests;

Legislation and Code Development
Participate in the research and development of provincial codes and national standards;
Participate in the development of legislation and policy;

Promote compliance under the Safety Codes Act
Monitor the delivery of safety services within the private sewage discipline;
Provide support to the Alberta Safety Codes Authority on issues related to the private sewage discipline;
As a subject matter expert, provide technical advise to the Safety Codes Council, Private Sewage, Sub-council,and Appeals Tribunal;

Mentorship
Provide support related to code interpretations to Accredited Agencies;
Provide support related to code interpretations to Certified Installers.

Administration
Complete employee performance planning and appraisal processes;
Maintain records in accordance with records management protocols;
Participate in the preparation of reports to communicate program performance;
Participate in the development of information material to enhance the safety of Albertans.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:
Safety Codes Officer - Group B (PSDS) certification, or Related education and/or training, i.e. JourneymanCertificate, degree or diploma or certificate in a related trade.
Certified Engineering Technologist - 5 years of relevant experience
Biological Sciences - Environment
Chemical - Environment
Civil - Civil Engineering
Civil - Environment
Civil - Water Supply and Waste Water
Environmental Health Officer - 5 years of relevant experience
Professional Engineer - 5 years of relevant experience

Assets:
In-depth knowledge in the safe installation and application of private sewage treatment systems
Expert knowledge of related codes and standards
Strong analytical skills to provide technical advice and uniform interpretations to diverse groups includingprofessional engineers/architects, contractors, manufacturers and the public
Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders
Strong written and verbal communication skills
