Located in Toronto, the Art Gallery of Ontario (\xe2\x80\x9cthe AGO\xe2\x80\x9d) is one of the largest art museums in North America, with a collection of close to 100,000 works. Through the collection as well as collaborations with leading museums around the world, the AGO presents wide-ranging exhibitions and programs to approximately 1 million visitors annually.

We are currently seeking a Temporary Part-Time, Principle Art Educator, School Programs to join our Education & Programming team. Under the direction of the Manager, School Programs and Early Learning, the incumbent will be working in conjunction with other Art Educators, staff, and interns, the Principal Art Educator supports the design and facilitation of virtual school programs that are engaging, innovative, child-centered, accessible and equitable, as well as responsive to visitor needs and program objectives. Makes relevant connections between local and global perspectives centered on the Ontario curriculum through a range of activities that are participatory and experimental. Supports the mentorship Program of Art Educators while delivering a range of virtual school programs for elementary and secondary school students that are educational, engaging, innovative with an emphasis on process, encouraging the development of critical thinking skills, and personal creativity.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications, skills, and experience:
  • Demonstrated teaching experience (minimum 2 years) in a formal and/or informal learning environment with children and youth.
  • Post-secondary studies in Education, Art Education, Fine Art or Art History combined with some studio experience and/or equivalent life and work experience.
  • Deep knowledge of the Ontario curriculum and experience with application
  • Sound knowledge of learning theories and teaching methodologies as well as various media, techniques and practices relevant to in-gallery and studio-based practices.
  • Demonstrated studio practice with relevant critically recognized exhibitions or presentations in the last five years.
  • Demonstrated art history knowledge of particular areas, with desire to learn more
  • Demonstrated teamwork skills and a desire to work as part of an instructional team comprised of staff, volunteers and interns.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to lifelong learning and excellent customer service.
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable, and self-reflective.
  • Ability to speak French and/or a language other than English is an asset.
  • Demonstrated computer competency skills (word, excel, email, etc.)
