Purpose

Reporting to the Manager Delivery - Jansen, Potash Technology, the Principal Infrastructure Architect develops a system thinking based view of our organization and how future strategies, initiatives and technologies will change the organization by designing key fundamental digital technology patterns required to automate work. This position provides technical expertise in the design of a specific domain (Infrastructure) in line with business requirements. This role is accountable for the infrastructure hosting, storage, and network implementation of the Jansen Technology Program of work consisting of IT and OT implementation, hybrid cloud, and supporting enterprise infrastructure and services integrations.

The Infrastructure Architecture Role will be a significant integration lead for the Potash Jansen Greenfield Major Capital Project, integrating with teams in the Integrated Project Team (IPT) delivery model and with major strategic partners. The role will provide leadership in technology decision-making and governance / assurance of a major capital project in Potash Jansen, delivering an advanced digital strategy to a new operating asset. Potash Jansen will be leading BHP technology in choices for the future due to the greenfield (no legacy systems/no technical debt to overcome) nature of the future operating site and greenfield BHP Asset in Potash, and to the new Business Asset with future project stages.

This position also serves as an authority for infrastructure hosting, storage, and network technology architecture matters closely linked to BHP global architecture and technology teams. This role will be a representative of the Potash Jansen Technology Architecture Panel, working in direct association with the Principal Enterprise Architecture role in Potash Technology.

Work Location

Downtown, Saskatoon office. 40 hours per week. Hybrid working (flexible, shared workstations and a combination of office and work from home) is standard for BHP.

About the Role

  • Responsible for evaluating technologies and products, determining and enforcing standards
  • Develops Technology Infrastructure Roadmap strategy, current state, target state and architectural models in alignment with the current and future needs of the Potash business
  • Works directly with Potash Technology Enterprise Architecture, and peer Potash Technology Architects in Data and Solution (Application) domains
  • Manages the existing and roadmap portfolio of technology infrastructure designs, patterns, and services across Potash Asset
  • Understands and contributes to technology services across BHP globally
  • Assessing the current landscape to detect issues/risks and opportunities for improvement
  • Applies architecture tools/best practices and develops, designs, and approves architecture guardrails to drive secure, well-designed systems to deliver maximum business value
  • Defines the conception, development, and implementation of a product
  • Applies an understanding of knowledge in Cloud and Hosting, including virtualization, operating systems, compute and high-performance computing, data protection, storage, public cloud transport, private cloud transport and virtualized applications
  • Monitors and manages the performance, capacity, and availability of infrastructure, resolves performance issues and conducts asset and inventory management throughout the lifecycle
  • Provides specialist advisory on BHP architectural standards, governance frameworks, and emerging technologies
  • Analyses a variety of cyber security information and tests existing security controls to advise on mitigation and preventative measures for cyber risks and threats
  • Identifies, engages, and manages a range of diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Defines value drivers and determines the boundaries of an opportunity to determine if it is worth further investment
About You

Pivotal Experiences for the Role:
  • Must have years of experience in an Architect role
  • Broad understanding of technology solutions and is able to present solution and portfolio-level strategy to clients at all levels

Required:
  • Degree or Diploma in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics)
Recommended Designations or Equivalent:
  • IT Information Library Foundations Certification (ITIL)
  • The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
