The Principal Engineer is responsible for the design, approval, and execution of engineering and technical activities. The role provides advise and expertise to the engineering team and directs engineers to provide technically and operationally sound solutions. This role is accountable for overall technical compliance of the design, ensuring technically compliant, safe, and functional design that meets customer and class requirements. Analyzes information, specifies methods, processes steps, and the plant, machinery and equipment required to design and continuously improve manufacturing or materials processes and process systems, to deliver the end product within specified cost and quality parameters.
Crafts engineering solutions and the associated validation process to enable the realization of a design brief that conforms to organizational and regulatory standards. Provides technical authority, delegates technical authority to engineers and signs off for requirements changes.
Analyzes information, drafts engineering standards and specifications, and evaluates the efficiency of those standards within own engineering discipline to ensure work of the required quality is delivered and to advise engineering work in the organization and/or of its suppliers, contractors, and consultants.
Carries out inspections to evaluate the quality of complex, large scale engineering works and / or the integrity of existing complex, large scale installations or structures, and specify the remedial works needed to ensure conformance with specifications and regulatory requirements.
Determines maturity targets and reviews of completion at gate reviews.
Uncovers emerging issues or needs, identifying potential causes, barriers and key stakeholders as well as related issues.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
What you\xe2\x80\x99ll bring
Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a relevant Engineering subject area, Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree preferred.
Professional Engineering designation in the Province of British Columbia
Minimum 15 years post-secondary experience in ship operation, in-service support and/or ship design and construction environment; 20+ years preferred.
Experience in complex vessel integration.
Experience in supervising and developing people.
Experience working with a diverse, integrated project team.
