Prevention Program Manager

Fort Nelson, BC, CA, Canada

Job Description

What You'll Do

Background: The Fort Nelson First Nation Prevention Plan was shaped through extensive community engagement and is focused on strengthening families, empowering youth, promoting mental wellness, reclaiming culture and land-based identity, and improving community safety and wellbeing. While the plan outlines a two-year rollout, its initiatives will continue to grow and evolve beyond that timeline. The Prevention Program Manager will not only guide implementation but also oversee the ongoing delivery and development of programs to ensure lasting impact in the community.

Reporting to the Director of Health & Community Services, the Prevention Program Manager plays a crucial role in managing and overseeing programs and services that align with the Fort Nelson First Nation Prevention Plan. In support of the two-year plan, the Manager's responsibilities include preparing and translating the plan into culturally grounded, community-led services that address the key prevention themes: culture and land-based identity, parenting and family wellness, youth empowerment, mental health and healing, and community safety and wellbeing.

The Manager will provide leadership in program planning, budget stewardship, and partnership development to strengthen families and prevent crises before they occur. In addition, this role carries significant responsibility for staffing the Prevention Plan: recruiting, supervising, and mentoring a multidisciplinary team of prevention workers, cultural facilitators, and support staff to ensure services are effectively delivered. The Manager also oversees a multi-million-dollar budget, ensuring financial accountability, reporting compliance, and alignment with Fort Nelson First Nation policies and funding agreements. As a passionate advocate for community health, the Prevention Program Manager champions initiatives that reconnect our people to land, language, and culture, while creating safer, healthier futures for our children and families.
