The Role

Verdyn is developing a

new multi-source DC/DC and AC/DC converter platform (~1 MW class)

, and we're looking for a

Power Electronics Controls Engineer

to lead control strategy design from concept to commissioning. You'll own current/voltage loop design, source-management logic, and real-time implementation on industrial controllers--helping create

new IP

for Verdyn.

What you'll do:

Design control architecture

for a multi-source converter (?1 MW): current/voltage loops, sequencing, protection, start-up/shutdown, and source prioritization/power-flow.

Model & simulate

converter topologies and plant dynamics in

MATLAB/Simulink with Simscape Electrical

; validate control stability/robustness.

Implement controls

on

Beckhoff TwinCAT 3/PLC

(Structured Text and related languages), including real-time tasks, I/O, and safety interlocks.

Develop supervisory logic

(state machines, derating, thermal/EMI constraints, grid/microgrid modes).

HIL/SIL testing

and automated verification; bring-up in the lab and support

factory/site commissioning

.

Create IP

: contribute to invention disclosures, design notes, and control software documentation. Collaborate with power hardware, firmware, and systems engineers to align models, sensors/actuators, and protections.

What you bring:

Bachelor's (or higher) in Electrical Engineering or related field. Solid foundation in

power systems

and

control systems

(discrete-time control, observers/filters, PLLs, tuning & stability). Hands-on experience modeling power converters in

MATLAB/Simulink

; familiarity with

Simscape Electrical

. Practical PLC or real-time controls experience (industrial controllers or embedded RT targets). Ability to take controls from simulation ? implementation ? commissioning at power levels in the hundreds of kW or higher. Clear technical communication and documentation skills.
Nice to have skills:

Beckhoff TwinCAT 3

development (Structured Text, motion/IO, task scheduling, EtherCAT). Closed-loop control of high-power converters (DC/DC, AFE/rectifier, inverter) including current/voltage loop design and anti-windup. HIL platforms (e.g., Typhoon HIL, OPAL-RT) or SIL/processor-in-the-loop; automated test. Experience with BESS, DC microgrids, or EV fast charging; grid-forming/following modes. Protection concepts for power electronics (fault detection, soft-start/pre-charge, coordinated trips). Exposure to relevant standards and interconnection/grid codes. Contributions to patents or trade-secreted control IP.
