Introduction:
A top performing innovative research and analytic institute, ICES, is looking for a motivated Portfolio Management Specialist, Business Development to develop and implement growth strategies for the achievement of revenue goals. Candidates must have the right blend of business know-how and understanding of public and private research. Successful applicants should be team players who understand how to identify and capitalize on new market opportunities. In particular, ICES is searching for someone with excellent and engaging communication skills, as the successful candidate will be expected to interact daily with multiple private sector and public sector stakeholders. Preference will be given to candidates who plan to stay for the foreseeable future and grow within ICES.
Under the direction of Senior Director, Strategic Partnerships and Digital Services, the Portfolio Management Specialist, Business Development works in collaboration with senior management, staff, and scientists across ICES. In this capacity, they are responsible for: leading initiatives that help ICES achieve its planned strategic direction, development, and future growth; liaison activities with key existing and potential new clients and partners; and translating opportunities into concrete commitments and/or revenue. The Portfolio Management Specialist, Business Development contributes to planning and implementation of innovative strategic initiatives, including those identified by the ICES Executive, Board and/or partners.
Responsibilities of the position include, but may not be limited to:


  • Monitor the external environment to strategically identify opportunities to advance ICES\' mission and vision; serve as an Advisor to the ICES Executive on health system and research trends, developments, risks and mitigations;
  • Collaborate with internal ICES stakeholders to ensure alignment of emerging opportunities with ongoing ICES scientific and corporate strategies;
  • Write project reports, technical reports, status reports, requirements, briefing notes that promote ICES to national and international audiences;
  • Lead discrete strategic, novel initiatives relating to ICES such as the development of a clinical trials strategy for the organization together with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Explore, develop and implement innovative client and stakeholder engagement processes to tailor products and services;
  • Be accountable for the success of ICES engagements involving multi-functional teams, leading and/or participating in several opportunities at the same time;
  • Be accountable for client satisfaction and revenue within the client base, and act as the ICES interface;
  • Create and improve proposals for our existing and new clients;
  • Analyze departmental budgets, develop and track revenue targets;
  • Perform high level management of private sector engagements including ensuring efficient signing of contracts and ensuring project milestones are tracked and managed;
  • Together with the ICES Executive, develop and manage strategies for pursuing new opportunities with private, public and philanthropic sectors using market research;
  • In collaboration with ICES communications team, assist in the organization\xe2\x80\x99s branding, marketing collaterals, and web site directed toward emerging audiences (e.g., private sector);
  • Participate in forums, panels, and conferences as a representative of the organization; develop and deliver pitches for potential clients and funders;
  • Manage client and partner relations including negotiating, problem resolution, and resolving conflicts;
  • Work closely with management, scientists and staff across ICES and with external partners/clients to successfully plan and oversee the implementation of activities that translate strategic ideas into revenue opportunities;
  • Develop and track revenue targets; increase revenue opportunities for ICES Data and Analytic Services; make recommendations, implement and monitor against established metrics;
  • Other duties as may be assigned within the scope of this position.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required:
  • Post graduate degree (Masters or Doctoral level) in health-related specialty, business, or administration required. MBA is an asset
  • 5+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience working in a business development or strategy role;
  • Fully proficient in the use of MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook);
  • Ability to maintain strict confidence as required when interacting with stakeholders;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to exercise discretion, tact and good judgment;
  • Ability to demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills to manage and prioritize workload responsibilities and timelines;
  • Careful and critical organizational, interpretive, problem-solving, and analytical skills;
  • Ability to multi-task, work accurately and effectively under pressure, meet deadlines and remain composed in high-pressure situations;
  • Demonstrable complex strategic solutioning and selling skills preferred;
  • Experience and demonstrable relationships with corporate level executives;
  • Experience selling services/solutions related to public sector;
  • Experience selling services related to business analytics and big data;
  • Understanding of and experience working in areas of research and/or healthcare is a strong asset;
  • High degree of \xe2\x80\x9cEQ\xe2\x80\x9d;
  • Strong leadership skills;
  • Positive, keen attitude and a strong drive.
