Founded in 1970, Steele Hotels is an independent hotel operator based out of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. With origins in Gander, NL the company has grown to include 8 properties located in St. John's, NL, Corner Brook, NL, and Fredericton, NB.

Steele Hotels is looking for a part-time

Porter

to join its growing team at The Capital Hotel in St. John's, NL. The ideal candidate would possess a positive "can-do" attitude, and a high level of professionalism, coupled with a strong work ethic and critical thinking skills. This often involves working in fast-paced environment conditions at varying times throughout the day or night.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

:

Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and food service areas throughout shift, including dishwashing during peak periods, in accordance with health and safety regulations Prepare and set up meeting rooms and event spaces, including arranging furniture and equipment for scheduled meetings, events, and banquets Ensure cleanliness of all hotel public areas, including washrooms, hallways, and common spaces Collect and dispose of waste and recycling materials in accordance with proper disposal procedures Prepare and replenish coffee breaks and refreshment stations for meetings, events, and banquets, as required Assist with general cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and overall tidiness of assigned areas Support the Housekeeping Department with cleaning and operational tasks, as needed Assist with exterior maintenance and general repair work, including some outdoor duties, as required Perform other duties, as assigned

Qualifications, Skills, & Attributes:

Previous experience in a hospitality, custodial, housekeeping, or food service environment is considered an asset Thorough knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation, and cleaning practices Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, standing for extended periods, and some outdoors work Ability to work well independently and as a team Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, overnight shifts, and holidays
