Policy Research AssistantIn the appointment of Research Assistant, your general duties and responsibilities will be to provide support in the study of intersectoral action on public health issues.Your general location of work will be in the Health Sciences Building/remote and you will report to Dr. Thilina Bandara.Nature of Work:Under the supervision of Dr. Bandara, the research assistant will conduct policy-based research, which will include document analysis and interviews data collection and analysis. The work is supported by a CIHR Catalyst Grant.The research assistant will work on projects related to understanding the network of health and social service organizations that are involved in emergency response in Saskatoon for vulnerable populations, across three emergency types: COVID-19, Substance Harms and Cold Weather Events. This work will involve helping other research staff members with literature reviews, conducting content analysis on existing data, and conducting interviews with relevant stakeholders across organizations. Learning and executing social network analysis will also be involved to understand the dynamics of the networks of stakeholders involved.Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

  • Conducting literature reviews
  • Analyzing existing data sources on intersectoral action on COVID-19
  • Preparing ethics application
  • Creating data collection instruments
  • Executing the protocol
  • Conducting data collection
  • Analyzing the data
  • Attending and recording team meetings
  • Helping to write-up findings
  • Other duties as assigned
Education:Graduate degree underway or completion is required. (i.e., Sociology, Public Health, Community Health, Public Policy, or similar fields.)Experience:
  • Previous experience either conducting policy-related research
  • Familiarity with NVIVO and UNCINET will be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of research ethics and regulations for granting agencies is a strong asset
Skills:
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrable examples are considered essential for this position
  • Strong organizational skills with demonstrable examples are considered essential for success in this position.
  • Computer skills with knowledge of Word, Power Point, Excel, and email are considered essential for this position
  • Familiarity with working with community-based organizations would be beneficial
