Senior Research Assistants are normally graduate students, or University of Winnipeg undergraduate students, employed to assist in the execution and evaluation of research projects in their area of study. The positions may oversee Research Assistants in areas such as the use of proper techniques, analysis, and documentation.

Senior Research Assistants work under the general supervision or direction of more senior researchers or faculty members, and are expected to exercise judgment in prioritizing, planning and organizing their own work within defined parameters.

Position Overview:

This Sr. Research assistant position is to help Dr. F\xc3\xa9lix Mathieu with the research project \xe2\x80\x9cMultinational Federalism and Shared-rule: Theory and Practice\xe2\x80\x9d. The core objective of this project is to critically examine the role that the Canadian Senate and intergovernmental relations dynamics play within the Canadian federal system and to identify their main shortcomings by reviewing its past and current practices through the lens of the normative political theory of multinational federalism. In doing so, we will be able to identify how Canadian federalism could more efficiently achieve peaceful coexistence amongst its constitutive diversity.

Duties:

  • Prepare literature reviews on the theory of multinational federalism;
  • Assist with duties related to the production of articles, publications, reports and presentations;
  • Assist in data collection, data entry, analysis and interpretation;
  • Perform routine clerical and administrative duties to support research activities;
  • Prepare materials for submission to research funding agencies and foundations;
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree (Arts), Major in political science
  • Must be familiar with the theory and practice of federalism (at least the Canadian case)
Condition(s) of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
The period of work will be from August 1, 2023 - March 31, 2024, and the estimated total hours of work will be 100-200 hours.
