The Opportunity

The Nursing Policy Consultant\'s role encompasses leading and supporting teams at IWK Health through the policy process with expert knowledge of policies, procedures, protocols, care directives, delegated functions, and guidelines (hereinafter referred to as policies.The Policy Consultant, Nursing serves as a policy development expert for nursing and main point of contact for policy matters within IWK Health and in collaboration with Nova Scotia Health and/or OPOR. The Policy Consultant acts as a centre wide resource on policy development and is a member of appropriate standing committees and ad hoc working groups. The Policy Consultant plays a key role coordinating the development, review, maintenance, and distribution of policies and associated processes as well as alignment of these policies across relevant health sectors. They display innovation and creativity in the performance of the role by utilizing a variety of strategies and resources to support individual/team/program needs.

The Policy Consultant provides leadership in collaborating with clinical teams related to policy planning, coordination, and implementation of identified centre wide projects and initiatives, as appropriate. They work in collaboration and partnership with nurses and other health care professionals across the organization to provide leadership, support and guidance in the development and revision of policies, as well as assist with navigating their review and approval by appropriate partner review committees. The Nursing Policy Consultant promotes and maintains strong and effective interpersonal and interprofessional relationships; communicates effectively, garners collaboration and works consultatively with all levels within the organization. The Policy Consultant consistently models resolving conflict in a respectful and professional manner.

Monday - Friday, 8 hours/dayMonday - Friday, 8 hours/day

Your Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Nursing required.
  • Masters degree required. Masters in progress will be considered, or commitment to commence Masters within 2 years
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years clinical nursing experience required.
  • Current successful completion of CPR-Level C Healthcare Provider within the last 12 months required.
  • Previous experience engaging, leading, and managing project work groups required; working respectfully and collaboratively to build consensus
  • Knowledge and application of the IWK Leadership Framework (LEADS)
  • Demonstrates understanding of the definitions, policies, and approval for optimizing the nursing scope of practice (care directives and beyond entry level competencies (BELC\'s) and applies knowledge in different practice settings.
  • Demonstrates ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with groups and individuals
  • Ability to resolve conflict constructively and respectfully
  • Demonstrates effective communication skills with individuals and groups (written, presentation, verbal & non-verbal)
  • Demonstrates strong problem solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft computer applications
  • Time management and organization skills required
  • Works independently with minimal supervision
  • Functions as a change agent by thinking reflectively, assessing alternatives and evidence, leading and supporting change.
