The Opportunity

Our Policy & Insights team is looking to add an #EnergyProblemSolver to support stakeholder management through the analysis and execution of TC\xe2\x80\x99s external relations strategy.

The power sector plays a key role in helping to decarbonize the global economy, by examining and promoting operational, financial, and sustainability throughout the value chain of the electricity sector through evidence based objective research and cutting-edge analytical approaches. We are looking for an experienced professional with hands-on experience and power sector understanding, to build and expand the work on existing and new energy resources, including advanced nuclear technologies.

Reporting to the Director, Public Policy, this position can be based in Toronto or Ottawa, Ontario.

What you\xe2\x80\x99ll do

  • Performs analysis of public policy and business processes in the power sector and overall electricity markets to enable the business to function more effectively.
  • Monitors and analyzes emerging community and governmental issues, approaches and methodologies impacting TCs power business, including nuclear, and provides input into the development of corporate policies.
  • Build support and internal alignment on trilateral and international strategy.
  • Provide corporate guidance in a rapidly evolving legal, regulatory and social context in order to deliver sustainable and responsible business results.
  • Prepares briefings or reports to senior management and provides consultation and guidance on strategic power sector policies.
  • Actively support teams with the execution of solutions that address stakeholder concerns.
  • Monitor legislative and legal case developments in TC Energy\xe2\x80\x99s operating regions and modify approaches and advice appropriately. Report and update management on emerging issues, trends and evolving policies.
  • Represent the company in both large and small public settings in a professional and skillful manner.


Minimum Qualifications
  • 4+ years work experience in Government, Government Relations, Public Policy, Public Affairs, Energy Policy, Law, Community Development or International Relations.
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a related field.
  • Knowledge of the North American (CDN-US-MX) and international power sector environment.
  • Demonstrated business acumen within the energy sector.
  • Proven negotiation, facilitation, and diplomacy skills.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing strategic partnerships.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong respectful relationships with a variety of groups, from the grassroots to senior levels, both internally and externally
  • Ability to be a team player and work independently to achieve project-driven deliverables in a continuously evolving context.
  • Extreme attention to detail.


This position requires candidates to:
  • Have current, valid authorization to travel internationally (including but not limited to Canada, US and Mexico)
  • Successfully complete pre-employment medical screening including drug and alcohol testing, if requested
  • Travel to other company locations for meetings or training (estimated up XX% of work schedule)
  • Stay overnight away from home base (estimated up XX% of work schedule)
  • Successfully complete pre-employment Bankruptcy, Credit, Civil and Criminal background checks
