POLICE (RCMP) BASED VICTIM SERVICES PROGRAM WORKER

Job Summary:
As part of the Summit team, the Police-Based Victim Services Program Worker will provide information, assistance, and referral services to victims and witnesses of crime and trauma in the Cranbrook and Kimberley policing areas.
Reports to:
RCMP Victim Service Program Coordinator & Clinical Supervisor
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Accept
referrals
from
RCMP, the public
and
community
colleagues
and initiates client contact in a timely manner Protect client information and ensure confidentiality
Provide direct services, information, and referrals to victims and witnesses of crime
Liaise with
Criminal
Justice
partners
including
RCMP,
Coroner's Office, Crown Counsel and Crime Prevention to assist and support victims of crime
Work in collaboration with and refer clients to the Sexual Assault Services program, Community Based Victim Services program and other community partners
Provides court support to victims/witnesses of crime, including updates on court appearances, court orientation and accompaniment, and explanation of the criminal justice system, when applicable
Provide support to clients in completing various forms and applications (Victim impact Statement, Crime Victim Assistance Program etc.)
Offer Critical Incident debriefings to families and individuals impacted by traumatic events
Guide & Aid in Safety planning
Provide program awareness and education through community involvement, including participation in community committees, community presentations and educational events
Maintain accurate records and other administrative duties, including accessing information from RCMP, maintain Victim Services files (VSIS), collect statistics for the Ministry of Public Safety & Solicitor General
Education, Training and Experience:
Relevant training and/or experience
Degree or Diploma in related discipline is desirable
Pass and maintain RCMP Enhanced Security Clearance.
Class 5 Driver's Licence and must have own car.
Job Skills and Abilities:
Strong organizational and time management skills
Strong computer, keyboarding and clerical skills.
Familiarity and a working knowledge of MS word and Excel is desirable
Excellent written and verbal Communication Skills
Ability to work effectively independently and as a team
Knowledge of both the criminal justice and family justice systems and the related administrative process
Knowledge of social services resources including grief support, trauma reactions, mental illness, abuse, suicide intervention, substance abuse etc.
Sensitive and responsive to cultural differences in the client population
* Knowledge of trauma- informed practice
