Working under the direction of the Executive Director, the role of the Victim Services Worker working in the District of Nipissing, is the delivery of victim services. VSW is responsible for ensuring the adherence to applicable legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures in accordance with ministerial guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities Victim Services Worker
Effectively present the program to the community in a manner that accurately reflects the limitations of the program
Respond to calls for service from Police and other emergency services
Form positive relationships with law enforcement, hospitals and social agencies to build effective delivery of the service in the community
Screen clients in accordance with the Ministry of Children Community Social Services (MCCSS) Program Standards
Provide direct client services in accordance with MCCSS Program Standards
Offer needs assessment to victims of crime and vulnerable victims of tragic circumstances
Assist client in the development of personalized service plan, including making appropriate referrals
Assist the client in completing a comprehensive, detailed safety plan following MCCSS guidelines
Provide support and client follow-up post crisis in accordance with MCCSS Program Standards
Record statistics as required
Complete VQRP+ applications in accordance with the VQRP+ guidelines
Maintain appropriate record-keeping/documentation and client files, statistical and outcome measurement tools
Responding personally on scene to assist Afterhours team in difficulty or to provide direction in large-scale emergency situations
Other duties as assigned
Position Requirements
Consent to a Criminal Background Check including a Vulnerable Person Check
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality (Oath of Confidentiality to be signed annually)
Valid Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle; willingness to travel within the catchment area (Nipissing)
Thorough knowledge of social services and victim issues, acquired through a degree in social work, psychology or related programs of study
Demonstrated experience/education in victim support and crisis intervention
Knowledge of the justice system, social services, community resources
Ability to work with little direct supervision
Willingness and ability to maintain a flexible work schedule including occasional evenings and weekends.
Strong organizational skills
Proficient in word processing and desktop publishing
Energetic individual who possesses the ability to deal with high stress and crisis incidents in a calm and soothing manner
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain good working relationships with police, staff and other social services providers
Excellent decision making, organizational and communication skills
Conscientious in completing all necessary documentation
Ability to provide non-judgmental, sensitive, emotionally safe services related and victims
Elevated level of commitment and responsibility
