Job Summary

The Plant Layout Technician is responsible for designing, optimizing, and maintaining the physical layout of the production facility. This role ensures that equipment, workstations, material flows, and utilities are arranged efficiently, safely, and in accordance with operational and regulatory requirements. The technician collaborates closely with engineering, maintenance, production, and health & safety teams to support continuous improvement and plant expansion projects. The incumbent of this role will be based at the Halifax Facility located on 189 Pratt and Whitney Dr, Enfield, NS B2T 1L1.



Key Responsibilities

Develop and update factory layout plans using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.). Analyze production flows and propose improvements to optimize space, efficiency, and ergonomics. Participate in the planning and execution of plant modification, expansion, or relocation projects. Coordinate equipment installation, relocation, or removal according to engineering specifications. Conduct on-site measurements, audits, and feasibility studies. Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical documentation related to plant layout and infrastructures. Collaborate with Health & Safety teams to ensure compliance with safety standards, including emergency routes, clearances, and workstation ergonomics. Support continuous improvement initiatives (Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, etc.). Communicate with internal teams and external contractors during projects.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Technical diploma or degree in industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field. Proficiency in CAD tools (AutoCAD required; SolidWorks, DraftSight, or similar is an asset). Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and industrial workflow principles. Knowledge of safety regulations and industrial standards. Good analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to interpret technical drawings and engineering documents. Strong communication skills and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams. Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
