Responsibilities

OVERALL PURPOSE
The Plant Technician is responsible for the building maintenance on a variety of equipment including sprinklers, air conditioning and halon systems, as well as general upgrading activities which include painting and repair in all fixed facilities such as stations, substations and the Operations and Maintenance Centre (OMC).
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Works within policies generally defined by the Company including priorities set by the Plant Supervisor.
Takes assignments at the beginning of the shift from the Plant Supervisor and ensures supplies and equipment are available to complete the projects identified.
Completes assigned tasks to establish Company or industry standards using approved work practices and methods.
Assists in directing contract personnel in servicing or repairing overhead doors and grills, roofing, HVAC, fencing, landscaping, fire protection and other assignments.
Conducts work activities in a manner safe to the individual and to fellow workers.
Patches plaster, cement and other floor covering surfaces.
Repairs switches, locks, door closures, windows and simple plumbing disorders.
Makes minor repair to chairs and other furniture.
Performs inspections, scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and campaigns on Facilities assets.
Signs off work as being completed to standard.
Attends technical and safety training programs to continually upgrade skills.
Operates a motor vehicle with valid BC driver's license.
Handles emergencies and failures in accordance with established procedures through immediate response and quick action.
Performs related duties as assigned such being of a minor nature which do not affect the value of the job.
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS
As per WorkSafeBC regulations, this job requires an annual fit test and may necessitate the use of a respirator. In either case, the employee must be clean shaven. Any exemption requests should be raised to Occupational Health and/or Labour Relations for consideration.
Qualifications
------------------
EDUCATION
High school graduation or equivalent.
Journeyperson Trades Qualification in one of the Building Trades (for example, Carpentry, Plumber/Pipe Fitter, HVAC, Millwright), with training and experience in one or more of the other Building Trades;
Minimum of five (5) years direct related experience at the Journeyperson level or equivalent;
Demonstrated experience and knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in painting, plumbing, carpentry, air conditioning and heating systems, as well as general building maintenance and janitorial work;
Demonstrated ability to function as part of a maintenance team; and
Class 5 Driver's License.
EXPERIENCE
The incumbent will have working knowledge of the materials, methods and equipment used in the painting, plumbing, carpentry as well as general building maintenance and janitorial work. Sound knowledge of the maintenance and repair of air conditioning and heating systems.

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. Rate of Pay

Salary: $58.27 per hour (Actual salary offered will be commensurate with education, experience and internal parity).
Please note: All new employees will be subject to a 6-week trainee rate at 75% of the hourly rate with the remainder of the first year at 90% of the hourly rate.
