Job Overview:
Position Summary
The Plant Buyer will be responsible for the procurement of designated material groups, which may include Myers Industries enterprise-wide or business unit-wide raw materials, packaging components, and/or site-specific services and production supplies including maintenance and general site services. The position coordinates with the Purchasing Manager, Supply Chain Manager, Supply Planner & Senior Sourcing Specialist to ensure procurement activities associated with releasing and scheduling of raw and packaging materials are in accordance with negotiated terms and conditions as required. The Plant Buyer will also administer the purchase order process from established contracts and programs. Additionally, the Plant Buyer will participate and contribute to continuous improvement projects and initiatives. Working cross functionally with transportation, warehousing, suppliers, manufacturing, and Quality, the Plant Buyer will resolve inbound purchased item challenges specific to production demand.

  • Executes site procurement activities in accordance with corporate and site policies and processes, and ISO procedures.
  • Utilizes MRP to determine inventory levels for assigned purchased categories.
  • Creates, releases, and tracks purchase orders for negotiated and/or contract materials for plant production, service vendors, and other activities that may be necessary for plant-specific services.
  • Manages inbound shipments and delivery dates and expedites purchase orders as needed to accommodate production schedules.
  • Communicates projected material and component requirements to supply base.
  • Communicates related supply constraints/shortfalls internally and identifies resolution options.
  • Cultivates effective, professional relationships with internal clients and vendors.
  • Collaborates with Quality to monitor and report supplier quality and delivery performance and establishes objectives for targeted improvement.
  • Partners with Quality and Purchasing Managers to hold suppliers accountable for on time delivery and quality standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
  • A minimum of 3+ years\xe2\x80\x99 previous procurement experience.
  • Proficient computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • An undergraduate or college degree, preferably in a supply chain or related field of study.
  • Previous procurement experience in a manufacturing plant environment.
  • Previous experience in the plastics industry is preferred.
