Hours of Work
35 hours per week, may be some evening and weekend work required (e.g. public open houses, committee meetings, advisory committee meetings, etc.) This would not be on a frequent basis.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location will be based out of 3332 Harvester Road, Burlington. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. Effective January 2026 this role will be in person a minimum of 10 days per month.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Supervisor, Transit Planning and Service Development, this position will be providing professional planning advice and recommendations in the areas of service planning, scheduling, operational support, development review, and special projects.
This position will work with a large amount of data to analyze and report on current, past and future trends using Excel, SQL, GIS, and Business Intelligence software. This position supports the bus stop and shelter program for Burlington Transit and may also represent the department/city on internal and external committees and public meetings.
Responsibilities
The Planner, Transit Service Design and Development will:Provide recommendations to transit routes and schedules based on data analysis and review of existing service Provide professional recommendation and input for the development of short and long-term transit service plans Conduct data analysis in areas such as ridership, stop boardings, to understand travel patterns and route performance Coordinate the production of weekly, monthly and annual performance metrics Undertake special and often technical research on a variety of transit issues Develop timetables, blocking, runcutting, and rostering utilizing transit scheduling software tools Generate reports pertaining to transit schedules, including annual revenue passenger service hours, on time performance, and headway adherence Coordinate the bus stop and shelter program for Burlington Transit Provide technical comments for development applications and Official Plan updates on behalf of the Transit Department Represent the City's interest and provides expertise as required in transit matters at committee meetings, meetings with other agencies (e.g. Metrolinx) and/or developers, public meetings/open houses, as well as representing the Transit department on internal City committees

Requirements
This position requires a Degree or Diploma in Urban Planning, Transportation Engineering/Planning, or a related field. A minimum of Two (2) years work experience within the transit industry is preferred. RPP designation is considered an asset. Strong knowledge of transit planning principles, computer skills and project management skills are required. Knowledge of HASTUS is an asset. Experience with ArcGIS and SQL is an asset. The successful candidate will be flexible, have analytical and problem-solving abilities and be able to multi-task in a busy environment. Communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential in this role.
Successful candidates may be required to work minimal afterhours to support community public engagement and feedback.
This position may require occasional travel between sites and/or City facilities.
