The Pharmacy Assistant will support the pharmacist in delivering high-quality pharmacy services. The ideal candidate will have excellent customer service skills, a strong attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
What you'll be doing:
Medication Preparation and Dispensing:
o Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications, including compounding and packaging prescriptions.
o Measure, count, and package medications accurately.
o Assist with the preparation of medication mixtures.
Data and Record Management:
o Accurately enter patient and prescription information into the pharmacy computer system.
o Maintain patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with privacy regulations.
o Update relevant prescription information as needed.
Inventory Management:
o Manage inventory, including ordering, receiving, and stocking supplies.
o Monitor stock levels, check expiration dates, and remove expired stock.
o Ensure proper storage conditions for all inventory.
Customer Service:
o Provide exceptional customer service by answering phone calls, greeting patients, and addressing inquiries and concerns.
o Handle cash transactions and operate the cash register.
Billing and Insurance:
o Assist in managing billing and insurance claims, including processing payments and resolving issues.
Pharmacy Operations:
o Conduct routine pharmacy tasks such as counting pills, labeling bottles, and organizing shelves.
o Ensure the pharmacy area is clean, organized, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
o Adhere to federal, provincial, and local pharmacy regulations, ethical standards, and patient confidentiality.
Pharmacy and Outreach Support:
o Assist with the preparation of medication therapy management and wellness programs.
o Work with equity-deserving groups and conduct outreach activities throughout Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
o Assess client needs and connect clients to community resources.
o Champion the program within the community and represent the organization at offsite events.
o Strategize with leadership to continually improve program effectiveness.
Other Responsibilities:
o Adhere to onsite Health and Safety Procedures.
o Perform other duties as required.
What you'll need:
Related post-secondary degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience in health sciences is preferred
Two years of experience providing pharmacy assistance preferred.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Proficiency in using pharmacy software and other relevant computer applications.
Knowledge of medical terminology and pharmacy practices is an asset.
Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle stressful situations.
Willingness to continue education and stay updated on pharmacy practices and regulations.
Ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
Commitment to providing excellent customer service.
Ability to manage time and set priorities.

Proven cross-cultural skills, particularly with low-literacy and low-English proficiency clients.

Must be fluent in English; a second language is preferred.
Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
Ability to work in person during office hours at the Pharmacy location and occasionally work evenings and weekends.
