Grinder
looking to take the next step in your career? We're seeking a
Cylindrical
Grinder
to join our Sizing department and play a key role in producing high-quality components. If you have a
minimum of three years of grinding experience
, proven precision with measurement tools, and a knack for training others, we want to hear from you!
Primary Accountability
As a Cylindrical Grinder - Level 2, you'll be primarily responsible for:
Providing
effective training
to new Grinders or employees from other departments in grinding operations.
Working with WHC Leadership to
develop job timelines
and drive
process improvements
within the grinding department.
Grinding customer and in-house components to
required specifications
with
optimal efficiency
.
Ensuring
high quality output
from all grinding operations.
Key Position Functions (What You'll Do)
You'll utilize your expertise to perform a variety of crucial grinding and manufacturing tasks:
Precision Grinding & Measurement:
Calculate
dimensions and tolerances
using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as
micrometers, Vernier calipers, dial indicators, and pre-set gauges
.
Study blueprints,
drawings
, and
engineering information
to determine methods, sequences, and product dimensions.
Rough and finish
flat, cylindrical, and conical surfaces
.
Grind
external or internal cylindrical
and tapered surfaces
by removing metal with rotating abrasive wheels.
Determine the
scope of jobs
, number of parts, and appropriate grinding wheels to be used.
Mount, balance, and check grinding wheels for cracks, and properly use dressing devices.
Confirm that the ground workpiece
, and materials onto machines.
Utilize and operate magnets, centers,
4-jaw chucks, and lathes
.
Demonstrate competency on at least
three different grinding machines
(a combination of internal and external machines).
Observe
machines
during operation
and
diagnose malfunctions
to determine the need for adjustments or repair.
Maintain workspace, equipment, and tools.
Safety, Teamwork, and Training:
Always utilize proper
PPE
and use proper wheel guards on all grinding machines.
Lift or hoist
workpieces and transfer pieces using lifts, cranes, and hoists.
Apply
protective packaging/coverings
on finished surfaces to protect for handling.
Successfully complete training
of new or backup personnel on grinding operations.
Be
proficient in at least one other production area
(Sizing, Applications, Logistics) to provide backup support for team absences.
Confer with supervisory and manufacturing personnel to
exchange technical information
.
Qualification & Experience Requirements
Required
High School Diploma
or GED.
Minimum
3 years of precision grinding experience using manual grinding machines
.
2 years
of machining or polishing
experience,
or equivalent.
Excellent written and verbal
communication skills
.
Assets (Nice to Have)
Journeyman Machinist Certification and Red Seal
.
Experience with
Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly Rate:
Between
$28.00 to $33.00 CAD per hour
. Hourly rates are determined by role, level, and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
