Performing Arts Teacher
Regular Hours Salary0.80 FTE Commensurate with placement on the SMSThis is a regular continuing position. Salary Grid, based on years of teaching experience & education (TQS Category)This is a bargaining unit position in the Professional Employees Association.
Summary St Margaret's School is seeking a self-motivated, energetic and team-oriented teacher to join our small and vibrant school community. As an inspiring educator, this teacher will have a passion for the performing arts, strong instructional skills and a commitment to improving the school through designing and implementing a creative and thriving performing arts program that connects teaching and learning to the overall mission and vision of the school. Key to this role is a motivation to work in an environment that develops competent, confident and courageous girls.The Performing Arts teacher plays a significant role in developing the music and drama program, including performances and building the competencies of our students as they develop a love of performing arts. We are looking for a charismatic teacher who is dedicated to working in an inclusive environment in which JEDI and Belonging are integrated into the classroom and workplace experience. The focus of this position is choral and instrumental music and dramatic arts instruction in Kindergarten to Grade 6, and Senior Musical Theatre.Job Duties include

• Work closely with the Principals to ensure an exceptional Performing Arts and Music program
• Collaborate with other members of the Performing and Fine Arts team
• Implement and deliver Performing Arts curriculum
• Plan and prepare students performances for school events
• Communicate student learning through written reports, parent-teacher interviews, student-lead conferences, and informal communication with parents
• Contribute to the social-emotional learning and care of the students
• Attend school functions as required
• Attend meetings with parents and colleagues to support the needs of the students
• Participate in regular staff meetings and school-required events
• Perform weekly playground and lunch duties

• Participate in the extra-curricular life of the school
• Actively support the vision, mission and values of the school
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications include

• Current and valid Teacher Certification through the Teacher Regulation Branch
• Bachelor of Education in Performing Arts or related field
• Experience teaching Performing Arts from Junior Kindergarten to the Grade 12
• Experience in directing and producing high quality school performances including musicals in a large scale setting
• Minimum 5 years international performance experience
• Minimum 5 years experience with choreography and dance experience
• Experience teaching singing techniques related to musical theater
• Skilled and experienced in teaching choral and instrumental music and drama
• Demonstrates exemplary teaching
• Proven and superior skills in instruction that include interdisciplinary, inquiry-cased learning
• Demonstrates a proficiency in implementing the BC curriculum
• Ability and desire to lead, to organize and to collaborate with others
• Excellent communication skills
• Embodies a growth mindset
• Commitment to and evidence of continued professional growth
• Actively support the vision, mission and values of our school

Assets

• Experience working in an all-girls environment
• Experience working in an independent school
• Masters in Education or related field
