TMS Lower School is inviting applications from motivated, inspiring individuals for the position of: Integrated Arts Teacher and Program Leader The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and strengthening the TMS Arts Pillar through the implementation of dynamic programs and progressive instruction. To support the opening of the new Performing Arts Centre on the Lower School Campus, TMS plans to focus on updating and enhancing the visual arts, music and drama programs to reflect a more vibrant TMS Arts Pillar. Our goal is to ensure that the Elementary arts reflect a progressive and integrated approach to instruction. The aim is to provide dynamic programs, with a focus on integration, joy and the cultivation of compassion and empathy through artistic expression. The exploration of new and innovative methods of storytelling and presentation using a combination of artistic mediums including the dramatic arts and technology will be the focus. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Working closely with the Head of Elementary to create a vibrant integrated arts program
  • Collaborating with and supporting the work of the integrated arts teachers Developing and implementing a dramatic arts program for Elementary students
  • Planning and coordinating December and May concerts and other Arts showcases for the Elementary Department
  • Supporting the Visual Arts and Music program through curricular updates and performance plans
  • Planning and coordinating all aspects of the production of the annual TMS Elementary Play including choosing a script, organizing rehearsals and costumes, coordinating students and teachers, etc.
  • Informally integrating drama in the classes by partnering with the homeroom teachers to supplement units, lessons, and themes
  • Leading and organizing assemblies with the Elementary coordinator
  • Being an active and positive participant in the extracurricular and community life of the school
Qualifications, Experience and Attributes:
  • Bachelor of Education and/or Montessori teacher training diploma is required
  • Ontario College of Teachers Certification with Junior School qualifications preferred
  • Drama and either Music or Visual Arts qualifications required
  • A demonstrated passion for working with children
  • Commitment to strong student and teacher relationships
  • Ability to instruct in a laptop environment
  • A proven professional approach and work ethic
  • Independent School experience is an asset
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A current Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Current First Aid, CPR and AED
