A Little Bit About Us and Our Summer Student Development Program: For the past 85 years, Kawartha Dairy has been proud to be a 100% Canadian-owned company, still operated by the same family that founded it in 1937. Although the company has grown tremendously from its early days, it still remains headquartered in the lakeside community of Bobcaygeon, Ontario, near Peterborough, an hour north of the GTA. We still use fresh milk and cream, delivered daily from local farms to make our premium, rich and creamy ice cream and dairy products.

The paid Student Development Program is a highly selective, high potential program for rising post-secondary students. An opportunity focused on helping students gain valuable work experience and insight into the Human Resources field in Bobcaygeon.
Students will directly contribute to Kawartha Dairy\xe2\x80\x99s success while receiving an unmatched, behind-the-scenes learning experience. Work within the People & Culture (P&C) team and gain exposure to Human Resources through challenging, hands-on projects and networking opportunities. In addition, you are given the opportunity to be mentored from our P&C Director.

What you Need:
  • Be enrolled in (or entering) 2nd-4th year post secondary OR post graduate program
  • Legally permitted to work in Canada
  • Able to work directly in beautiful Bobcaygeon, Ontario
  • Available for start of program April 29, 2024 until end of program August 31, 2024

What you will Do: Dive into dynamic HR tasks that drive our organizational excellence. Treating our candidates, new hires, and current employees as if they live around the corner as the P&C liaison; greeting, coordinating and executing their experiences during the employee\xe2\x80\x99s journey with the specific responsibilities below:
Recruitment
  • Be a talent acquisition champion, finding the best and brightest for our team
  • Draft and post job postings via our HRIS system, pre-screen candidates, schedule interview and conduct reference checks
  • Coordinate Onboarding: schedule facilitators, greeting new hires, conducting tour of their workspace/company as appropriate, take new hires for their first treat of the day, input into timeclock system, company shirt ordering and distribute to new hires, double checking workspace accommodations are in place prior to all employee start dates etc.
  • Source passive candidates through Indeed

Employee Relations
  • Nurture a thriving workplace culture where everyone\'s voice matters
  • Support department in all company sponsored events: Golf Tournament, Employee recognition BBQ, weekly employee prizes, attend Culture Club and assist with planning and execution of activities.
  • Assist with communications, build an inventory of screens according to the communication plan and publish company wide communication screens
Performance Management
  • Fuel individual and team growth through performance optimization
  • Assist with company benefit plan by processing enrollments, revisions and terminations
  • Assist with tracking of 30, 60, 80 Day Reviews & individual Kawartha Development Plans
  • Assist with surveying and tracking progress of Student Development program

Health & Safety
  • Safeguard our workforce\'s well-being, enhancing our safety culture
  • Assist with developing training decks developed with online training system
  • Assist with Health & Safety initiatives through interactive activities
  • Cataloguing and ordering of PPE requirements for Plant and Distribution Centre

Environmental
  • Play a key role in our eco-conscious initiatives for a greener future
  • Environmental continuation and sustainability
  • Environmental initiatives involving solar, wastewater solutions and solid waste planning

Learning & Development
  • Empower employees to reach their full potential
  • Assist in uploading training documentation within LMS system
  • Assist in the setting up of training & townhalls
  • Work with L&D Manager as main liaison of the Student Development Program

Cross Departmental Projects
  • Create LinkedIn Campaign for Student Development program with Marketing
