We are seeking an experienced Payroll Professional who will actively contribute to, oversee and support the various business entities operating throughout Canada.

Job Summary:
The Payroll Specialist will plan, organize, direct and control the weekly and bi-weekly payroll processes ensuring compliance adherence for multiple entities. Payrolls are comprised of salary, hourly and unionized hourly workforce.

Key Responsibilities:
Working with cross-functional stakeholders while maintaining responsibility for timely and accurate preparation, administration and processing of our, bi-weekly and weekly payroll (hourly, union and salary) including processing of new hires, terminations, rate changes, garnishments, benefit deduction amounts and other data relating to employee records and payroll processing.
Responsible for preparation, processing and verification of payroll, pension and benefits remittances, including recommending and implementing improvements to payroll policies, procedures and systems.
Ensures compliance of negotiated collective bargaining agreements as well as provincial and federal laws and regulations.
Maintains records of employee attendance, leave and overtime to calculate pay and benefit entitlements, using manual or computerized systems.
Provide guidance and information on payroll matters, benefit plans and collective agreement provisions.
Preparing year-end employee tax slips or forms and submitting government filings to meet deadlines.
Complete, verify and process forms and documentation for administration of benefits such as pension plans, leaves, employment and medical insurance.
Oversee the audit and control activities for each payroll cycle including reconciliations and timely submission of all payroll-related statutory filings and payments.
Participate in the budgeting and forecasting process.
Provide assistance to external auditors during interim and annual audits of corporate payroll records.
Assists in the review, development and documentation of payroll and benefits policies, procedures and controls. Manages and leads continuous improvement initiatives, implementing changes to processes and system enhancements.
Assists in the confidential evaluation and analysis of impacts from Union negotiations.
Maintaining confidential information by adhering to legal and ethical standard
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Degree or Diploma in Business Administration or related field; or combination of related experience.
5 years' progressively responsible, related experience in payroll administration.
Payroll designations such as Certified Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) certifications an asset.
Well versed in Canadian payroll legislation and strong attention to detail.
Experience managing payroll for both non-union and unionized staff with multiple collective agreements considered an asset.
Strong technical understanding and experience operating within various payroll software programs like Criterion, Sage 300 considered an asset.
Experience using payroll services providers such as ADP and Ceridian.
Capabilities
Ability to take proactive initiative troubleshooting, resolving and removing barriers to completing payroll and ensure functional and accurate system reporting.
Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines, multi-tasking priorities.
Ability and willingness to collaborate, direct and support others to complete payroll as scheduled.
Ability to problem solve through consensus, stakeholder involvement and dialogue.
Ability to develop productive relationships and express ideas and concepts effectively in oral and written form to a variety of audiences.
Remaining sedentary for prolonged periods of time working with computers. Occasional Travel may be required.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
