The Payroll Specialist processes the assigned payroll (salaried or hourly), including system updates, after-pay balancing and reporting, month-end reporting and remittances, and other duties associated with processing timely and accurate payroll.
How You'll Help:
Review new employee set up in the payroll system.
Ensures all employee data in the payroll system is up-to-date and accurate, including rate of pay, employment status, position information, personal information, etc. Verifies against documentation provided by Human Resources and/or the employee.
Balances payroll in follow up to pay period closing.
Prepares Records of Employment and submits to Service Canada and employees as required.
Recognize and recommend opportunities for process improvements.
Assists in the preparation of year-end documentation, such as T-4s
Resolves payroll related problems and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives related to processing payroll efficiently and accurately.
Assists in addressing inquiries related to the validation of costing data in collaboration with the Finance Team and Operations.
Responsible for reporting and auditing and analysis of payroll and timecard data.
Ensure compliance with federal legislation while keeping up to date with changes. Involved in any configuration changes and testing to accommodate new tax regulations.
Other payroll related duties as required.
Your Skills & Experience:
Post secondary education, preferably in payroll administration, business or office administration.
A suitable combination of education and experience may also be considered.
Certification with National Payroll Institute an asset.
Minimum of 3 years' experience processing payroll and related reporting and administration
Previous experience in the transportation industry an asset.
Strong inclination towards working with numbers and data.
Ability to work well in a cyclical, deadline driven environment.
Strong computer skills, including accurate data entry and knowledge of MS Outlook, Excel and Word, as well as the logic of payroll-related software
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Utilize advanced payroll technology to streamline processes, enhance payroll accuracy, and facilitate data-driven decision-making.
Remain up-to-date on emerging payroll technologies and best practices to ensure systems are current and efficient.
Experience with Oracle HCM an asset
