Position Summary
The Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing all Canadian payroll functions and supporting U.S. payroll where needed, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and confidentiality. This role requires deep expertise in Canadian provincial and federal payroll practices--including Quebec--and the ability to process French-language documentation. The Payroll Manager will serve as the subject matter expert on payroll compliance, tax reporting, and system integrity while collaborating closely with HR and Finance.
Key Responsibilities
Manage end-to-end payroll processing for Canada, including Quebec, ensuring timely and accurate pay cycles (on-cycle and off-cycle).
Prepare reports summarizing company earnings, taxes, deductions, overtime, leave, bonuses, disability payments, and non-taxable wages.
Prepare and submit year-end employee tax slips and government filings (T4, T2200, ROE, etc.) to meet strict deadlines.
Liaise directly with Canadian agencies such as CRA, Revenu Quebec, CNESST, and Service Canada.
Maintain confidential information in accordance with legal, ethical, and organizational standards.
Ensure payroll compliance with Canadian provincial and federal regulations; keep current on changes impacting payroll.
Support expatriate payroll activities in coordination with tax advisors.
Partner with HR, Finance, and external vendors to manage payroll-related benefits programs (RRSP/DPSP, pension).
Conduct payroll reconciliations, audits, and year-end processes to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Identify and implement process improvements to increase data integrity and efficiency.
Generate ad hoc payroll and compliance reports for senior leadership.
Troubleshoot payroll discrepancies, resolve employee inquiries, and manage escalations.
Support system upgrades and implementations (Ceridian/Dayforce, ADP Workforce Now, or similar).
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, Business, or related field (or equivalent combination of education and payroll experience).
Minimum of 10 years' experience in payroll processing management.
Minimum of 5+ years' experience in Canadian payroll processing, with demonstrated expertise in Quebec.
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP - U.S.) or Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP - Canada).
Strong working knowledge of Ceridian Dayforce (must reference both "Ceridian" and "Dayforce").
Bilingual language skills, verbal and written in French & English.
Demonstrated ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
Advanced problem-solving, research, and analytical skills.
