Position Summary
Reporting to the Vice-President, Human Resources, the Payroll Manager coordinates, and oversees all payroll-related activities. He or she leads the implementation of best practices, ensures appropriate controls are in place to mitigate risks to AGF, and actively participates in rolling out a new payroll system over the coming year.

Roles and Responsibilities
Supervise a team of five payroll technicians, managing weekly and bi-weekly pay for all Canadian divisions
Act as a resource for employees and managers on payroll matters in accordance with applicable laws and government regulations
Ensure data reliability and accuracy by implementing and participating in rigorous payroll verification processes
Oversee fair distribution of tasks related to payroll preparation, union compliance, and other duties
Provide payment calculations and employee information for salary insurance, preventive withdrawals, and CSST
Execute bank transfers to ensure timely deposit of payroll into employees' accounts
Prepare monthly and periodic government remittances for source deductions and other obligations
Supervise preparation and reconciliation of year-end reports (T4, Releve 1, and other government filings), including electronic transmission of T4s and RL1s for all divisions
Produce union (CCQ), CSST, preventive withdrawal, and related reports
Coordinate the preparation and issuance of Records of Employment; respond to Employment Insurance and government inquiries
Supervise and verify compilation and production of benefits reports, remittances, and payments to insurers, banks, and government agencies
Prepare payroll journal entries for the general ledger and explain any variances
Collaborate with divisional controllers, the corporate controller for annual audits, and the HR team to ensure employee data accuracy
Analyze, recommend, develop, and implement continuous process improvements and projects to enhance efficiency
Apply collective agreement provisions affecting payroll and benefits (premiums)
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years' experience supervising a payroll team
8-10 years' experience in unionized and administrative payroll environment
Professional diploma in accounting
Membership in the Canadian Payroll Association is an asset
Knowledge of CCQ collective agreements is an asset
Bilingual (English and French) - strong oral and written communication skills across Canada, including supervision of Quebec-based staff
Excellent organizational skills, respect for deadlines, and attention to detail
Strong prioritization skills and ability to make decisions quickly
