The YMCA of Cape Breton is seeking a confident, driven, and passionate professional to join our Finance & Administration team as a Payroll & Benefits Administrator. This is a full-time, permanent position (40 hours per week), based out of our head office.

Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Finance, the Payroll & Benefits Administrator is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll, as well as the administration of employee benefits. This role maintains compliance with federal and provincial regulations, and provides clear, responsive communication to employees regarding their compensation and benefits. This role also provides vital support for the Director of Peoples and Culture for various HR related responsibilities.
The YMCA of Cape Breton uses Payworks and BambooHR as the workforce management tool.
Responsibilities:
Process bi-weekly payroll through Payworks, including timesheet review, payroll exports, and employee updates
Respond to payroll-related inquiries
Stay current with Payworks system updates and improvements
Support managers with payroll changes and provide training on Payworks modules
Reconcile payroll-related accounts such as CRA remittances, WCB, pension, and medical benefits
Administer employee benefits and pension plans (YCB), including enrollment, termination, reconciliation, and payment submissions
Maintain accurate personnel records and ensure compliance with Child Protection Policies
Assist with onboarding and offboarding processes
Qualifications and Skills Required:
Diploma or degree in Office Administration, Human Resources, Payroll Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum 2 years of administrative experience with demonstrated alignment to payroll and benefits responsibilities
Proven payroll experience is required; familiarity with Payworks is a strong asset
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel, and experience with databases and general office software
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion
Superior interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Proactive communicator with the ability to support and guide managers through payroll-related processes
Solution-focused mindset with a willingness to seek out answers, identify opportunities for improvement, and contribute to system enhancements--especially during our current Payworks implementation
Note:
Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/ Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Registry Check. They will also be required to attend YMCA Child Protection Training and sign a confidentiality agreement.
