We are currently recruiting for an experienced Payroll Administrator to support our business operations.

The Payroll Administrator will join an existing team of one and be responsible for multi-project weekly payroll for multiple business units. This role will be based in the Edmonton office.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all payroll processing is completed with the utmost attention to detail and accuracy while adhering to deadlines. Ensure all payroll related documents are distributed proactively and in a timely manner;
  • Prepare and process weekly payrolls for hourly and salaried employees, which includes deductions, garnishees, taxes, etc.;
  • Process new hires, terminations, adjustments, employee changes (address, dependents, etc.), pay rate changes, promotions, misc. deductions, commissions, bonuses, and benefit changes. Verify time for hourly time submissions and import entries to payroll;
  • Prepare weekly Receiver General remittances, garnishments and RRSP's;
  • Answer internal and external payroll inquiries;
  • Coordinate the maintenance of individual payroll records, payroll distribution, preparation of year-end tax forms such as T4's; and compilation of periodic and special reports on payroll matters
  • Actively communicate with the Operations team, time entry, human resources and accounts receivable team to ensure alignment;
  • Manage regular preparation of relevant management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, payroll ledger to General ledger reconciliation, etc.).
  • Prepare ROE's, off-cycle payments, scheduled union remittances and processes various payroll reports for the year-end audit;
  • Ensure compliance with provincial legislation guidelines, collective agreements as well as internal policies and procedures;
Requirements
  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll related legislation including Income Tax, Employment Insurance, Canada Pension Plan, Employment Standards, WCB as well as full cycle benefit administration;
  • PCP or CPM Designation an asset;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel;
  • Advanced understanding of Alberta and British Columbia employment standards;
  • Ability to interpret and apply a collective agreement to payroll processes;
  • Must be highly organized and have strong attention to detail;
  • Strong team player with a commitment to professionalism and excellent customer service.
