This is a part-time position involving working weekends and holidays. The primary responsibility of the Cook is the preparation, storage and handling of food to meet the needs of the Niitoiyis Family Support Society. In addition, the Cook must meet the Canada Food Guide Standards as required by the Health Board. All programs are offered within a wholistic approach which includes traditional Indigenous Spiritual Concepts and ceremonies; blended with contemporary methods.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES - Cook
Prepare menus that complies with the guidelines of the Canada Food Guide Standards, within budget.
Ability to prepare 2 meals per day - Saturday, Sunday and on holidays.
Ensuring breakfast setup on the weekends.
Providing clients with adequate food to prepare for evening snacks.
Prepare food as requested by the CEO and/or other management staff.
Ensure food is stored and labeled according to Food Safety Standards.
Ensure cleanliness and proper sanitization of the kitchen is maintained, including freezers, refrigerators and other food storage units.
Must be able to lift and carry heavy boxes (up to 50 lbs) as part of unloading and organizing food bank deliveries.
Other cook tasks as assigned.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of grade 12.
Must provide proof of a current Police Check & Child Welfare Intervention Services Check.
WHMIS Certificate.
Journeyman Cook or 4th year apprentice.
