Part-Time Weekend Cook - Unisus School (Summerland, BC)

Unisus School, a private day and boarding school in Summerland, BC, is seeking a reliable, independent, and experienced cook to support weekend meal service for our boarding students and staff. This role is ideal for a semi-retired chef who brings strong culinary skills, professionalism, and the ability to run a kitchen independently.

Position Overview

The Weekend Cook is responsible for preparing high-quality, nutritious meals for approximately

50 students and staff each weekend

, ensuring a clean, safe, and well-organized kitchen environment. While working independently, the cook must remain considerate of the broader kitchen team and maintain consistent standards.

Schedule & Hours

Saturdays, 1:00-8:00pm

Occasional Sundays, 1:00-8:00pm

8-15 hours per week

, depending on scheduling Additional hours may be available for relief, vacation coverage, or special events

Compensation

$23-$25 per hour

Experience & Qualifications

Minimum

2 years of culinary experience

Food Safe Certification

(or equivalent) required Strong ability to work

independently

and manage all aspects of kitchen operations during shifts Must be able to

cook and clean

, including dishwashing and full kitchen cleanup

Positive attitude

and professional work ethic

Culinary skills in Asian and Mexican cuisines

are a strong asset Must be legally eligible to work in Canada (

Key Responsibilities

Meal Preparation & Service:

Prepare and cook weekend meals following established menus and quality standards.

Independent Kitchen Operation:

Manage all aspects of the kitchen during weekend shifts, including dishes, sanitation, and end-of-shift cleaning.

Food Safety & Hygiene:

Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant kitchen environment at all times.

Team Collaboration:

Work independently while maintaining respectful communication and alignment with the weekday kitchen team.

Consistency & Quality:

Deliver meals that reflect excellence in taste, presentation, and nutritional value.
