Reporting to the Dean, the incumbent develops and delivers courses in the Indigenous Community and Social Development Program. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

Developing and delivering appropriate curriculum for the following courses:
1. Holistic Health and Healing
2. Indigenous Cultural Sensitivity and Awareness

  • Evaluating student progress / achievements
  • Maintaining subject expertise through contact with First Nations, other educational institutions and / or professional organizations
  • Incorporating a variety of teaching / learning strategies to meet student needs
  • Participating in program and college activities as required
  • Participating in program revision and renewal activities as required
  • Creating and maintaining a positive learning environment
  • Using the college learning management system to support learning
  • Maintain effective communication using email and blackboard
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Relevant postsecondary education (Diploma / Bachelors / Masters) in Counselling/Social Work/Healthcare
  • Three years' experience teaching and or working within the relevant field
  • Knowledge, understanding and practices in Holistic Heath from an Indigenous perspective
  • Knowledge, understanding and lived practices in the Indigenous Way of Being
  • Strong knowledge in cultural identity, protocols and sensitivity and awareness in community
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem solving skills
  • Commitment to life-long learning
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment and to foster the same in students
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office
  • Experience with Blackboard and / or Banner are considered an asset
  • Experience in some or all of the following is an asset: curriculum development, a variety of delivery strategies, adult learning methodologies, academic advising, and student success strategies
  • Teaching and Training Adults certification and / or experience in a teaching or training capacity is an asset
