Effective Date: January 2024 Located in Orillia and reporting to the Associate Dean, of Human Services and Community Safety, the incumbent develops and delivers courses in the Human Services and Community Safety academic area for the General Education program. Courses may be scheduled and delivered during the day or evening and are planned to be delivered in person at Orillia campus. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Delivers courses in the General Education program
    • GNED 2033 Cinema Genres: Across countries, cultures and languages, cinema can entertain, enrage, enlighten and/or energize viewers through the power of story. To explore this power, students identify a variety of cinema genres and examine the ways in which films reflect or contradict the conventions of genre. Through the analysis of films styles and structures, students develop the critical skills necessary to become discerning viewers and explore the role cinema plays within society.
  • Develops and delivers appropriate curriculum to meet course objectives
  • Incorporates a variety of teaching / learning strategies to meet student needs
  • Evaluates student progress / achievement
  • Participates in program and college activities as required
  • Participates in program revisions and renewal activities as required
  • Creates and maintains a positive learning environment
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Successfully completed a diploma or degree in cinema and media studies or related field
  • 3 years of experience in teaching (face-to-face and online modalities) and curriculum development at the post-secondary level or equivalent experience
  • Experience embracing change and leading innovation
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to life-long learning
  • Computer literacy: MS Office along with a high comfort level with learning new software such as student learning management systems and various teaching delivery applications
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment and to foster the same in students
  • Experience in some or all of the following is an asset: curriculum development, a variety of delivery strategies, learning methodologies, academic advising, and student success strategies
  • Teaching and Training certification and / or experience in a teaching or training capacity is an asset
Acceptable proof of education (degree, credentials) from recognized post secondary institutions or confirmation of international equivalencies will be required as part of selection process
