Join Georgian College's vibrant academic team as a part-time faculty member in our new Horticulture Technician program. Be part of a forward-thinking, hands-on learning environment within a diverse and inclusive college community.
Reporting to the Dean, the successful candidate will develop and teach courses in the Horticulture Technician program. Courses may be scheduled during the day or evening. Specific duties include, but are not limited to: Delivering courses in the Horticulture Technician program
Designing and delivering curriculum that supports course and program outcomes in specific areas such as:
o Plant Science and Propagation
o Soil Science and Management
o Greenhouse Operations
o Landscape Design and Installation
o Sustainable Urban Agriculture
o Pest Management and Biosecurity Incorporating a variety of teaching / learning strategies to meet student needs
Evaluating student progress / achievement
Participating in program and college activities as required
Participating in program revision and renewal activities as required
Creating and maintaining a positive learning environment
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Landscape Management, Agricultural Science, or a closely related field
Minimum five years of industry experience in horticulture, landscaping, greenhouse operations, or a related area
Experience managing change and leading innovation
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Commitment to life-long learning
Computer literacy: MS Office
Proven ability to work in a team environment and to foster the same in students
Experience in some or all of the following is an asset: curriculum development, a variety of delivery strategies, adult learning methodologies, academic advising, and student success strategies
Teaching and Training Adults certification and / or experience in a teaching or training capacity is an asset
