Job Summary & Key Responsibilities (0.33 position) The instructor will be responsible for the Ecology Biology lectures of BIOL 1011, Principles of Biology Part II. This section introduces students to population growth, see how biological interactions structure communities, see what happens when top predators are removed, and learn why small population sizes concern conservation biologists. Students will also see how humans are altering the global nitrogen cycle, and how to interpret animal social behaviour in light of natural selection. The Ecology section includes seven lectures, each delivered twice in succession, and lasting ~80 minutes each. The responsibilities of the instructor may include preparation and delivery of lectures, preparation of a midterm test, appropriate modification of the course syllabus, evaluation of students, and, if applicable, supervision of teaching assistants. Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus, or out on field trips if appropriate. The position reports to the Chair of the Department.
Qualifications/Requirements of Position The applicants will have an advanced degree in biology. Previous, recent teaching experience in the related discipline and a demonstrated ability to lecture to a large class of undergraduate students would be a definite asset. First time applicants must provide the names of two referees.
