, the Parliamentary, Legislative & Communications Assistant provides comprehensive research, policy, communications, and project coordination support. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research, analyzing legislation and policy issues, drafting communications materials, and managing media and outreach initiatives. This role supports the Member's parliamentary, committee, and constituency responsibilities, ensuring the Member is well-prepared and effectively represented in all forums.

Duties and Responsibilities



Researches data, legislation, jurisprudence, and policy proposals to identify key elements, impacts, and issues of concern for the Member or relevant committees. Prepares comprehensive reports, committee briefings, notes, and summaries on matters of parliamentary or political interest. Drafts speeches, presentations, press releases, correspondence, and communications materials, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and alignment with the Member's priorities. Coordinates with the Chief of Staff to maintain and update the Member's schedule with key committee and parliamentary dates. Serves as the primary liaison with the Government House Leader's Office and Whip's Office regarding committee matters. Prepares briefing materials for extra-parliamentary activities. Manages major policy-related constituent inquiries and contributes to the drafting of householders, newsletters, and constituency mail-outs. Creates and manages social media content, including posts, videos, and images across multiple platforms to enhance outreach and engagement. Builds and maintains strong relationships with media representatives, stakeholders, and community partners. Monitors parliamentary proceedings, government announcements, and media coverage to identify relevant issues and opportunities for response. Represents the Member's office at committee, political, or community meetings and ensures timely updates on developments of importance. Contributes to special projects aimed at improving office operations and public engagement. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



Strong research and analytical skills; ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable advice. Superior written and verbal communication skills, with a deep understanding of political and legislative processes. Knowledge of communications theory, media relations, and social media strategy. Familiarity with the House of Commons environment, parliamentary culture, and current political affairs. Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and maintain confidentiality in a high-pressure setting. Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with sound judgment and discretion. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital communication tools.

Education and Experience



University degree in political science, communications, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Experience providing legislative, research, or communications support in a political, governmental, or media environment.

Working Conditions:



Security Clearance: You must submit and clear a security clearance as a condition of employment PRIOR to starting the position In-person job position - Location: Position may be hybrid when the House is not sitting Full-time 37.5 Hours per week. Some evening and weekend work will be required. Pay: Salary will be commensurate to qualifications and experience. Three Month Probation period at start of position
