The GVFB provides assistance to approximately 15,000 people monthly across Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster and the North Shore. We also provide food support to 150 agencies such as housing agencies, women and children's shelters, transition homes and after school programs, which in turn provide hot meals and snacks to thousands of people each week, including people who are unhoused.
Our mission is providing healthy food to those in need. Our vision is A British Columbia where everyone has access to healthy food through efficient distribution, innovation and partnerships. Currently, the GVFB distributes 8.9 M lbs of food each year.

Position Overview
This Communications Assistant assists the Communications Manager and Communications Coordinator with planning, coordinating, and implementing marketing and communications opportunities, while maintaining key relationships within the organization and external stakeholders to support the GVFB's strategic direction and goals.

Key Responsibilities
Work with the Communications team to achieve organizational communication goals in alignment with the brand, image, voice, and mission of the GVFB;
Conduct client, donor and volunteer interviews to tell our story;
Assist with photographing, videoing, and editing content for external communications;
Assist with updating the website;
Assist with the development of newsletters across the organization;
Along with the Communications team, coach staff on how to implement branding components such as templates and the brand guidelines;
Assist with the maintenance of the media and visual archives;
Support internal communications activities and events;
Assist with social media writing content and scheduling posts;
Simple graphic design using Canva, Illustrator or other photoshop tools;
Other admin tasks as requested by the Communications Manager.

Personal Attributes and Core Skills
Possess strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders including employees, volunteers, clients, and the public;
Demonstrate strong writing skills with emphasis on attention to detail;
Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities;
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships, work in a team environment, and build trust.

Qualifications and Experience
Completion (or in progress) of post-secondary education in Public Relations, Communications, Digital Communications, or related field an asset;
6 months of volunteer, co-op or paid relevant experience is an asset;
Demonstrated ability to write and edit clear, engaging, and grammatically correct content;
Experience with Windows MS Office and Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop;
Proficiency using social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, LinkedIn, and scheduling tools such as Hootsuite and Buffer;
Fundraising and/or non-profit experience is an asset.
